....or vice versa.
and of course by "band", i mean "band/musician/act/artist/etc"
i know there's been a thread attempting to find a band universally LOVED.
and another thread attempting to find a band that is HATED by all.
is it any easier this way? can you predict anything at all about someone's opinion of one band by their opinion of another band?
for example.....

x = SLAYER
y = BELLE & SEBASTIEN

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I sort of like both Albert Ayler and Chuck Mangione, but I guess I'm not a huge fan of either.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

x=bikini kill
y=le tigre

you know it's true.

Cameron (raygun), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost

I guess I was assuming that Albert Ayler fans are on a crusade about a particularly passionate kind of jazz playing and that Mangione would be the satanic opposite of that. But will someone come forth and declare their love for Joan AND Babs?

til then . . .

Counting Crows
The Dead C

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost, But the thing is, I'm not really an Ayler *fan*, in fact I like very little free jazz. In fact, I like both him and Mangione in about the same place: "I'm not that into this genre (for Ayler, free jazz, for Mangione, funky/smooth jazz) but this guy brings something tasty to the mix that brings it above the fray."

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

y=joanna newsom

A friend of mine who sometimes posts on ILE will rep for this combo, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

One might posit a theory that the better a band is, the harder it is to find a paring that works for them in this thread.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

X = Toby Keith
Y = R.E.M.

i have a friend who likes both of those, jon.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

we should do one of these for the other boolean implications. the second and third ones listed here seem to me to be the toughest ones for which to formulate examples.

~X -> ~Y : if you dont like hawkwind, you won't like acid mothers temple.

~X -> Y : if you dont like hawkwind, you will like stupid lame things.

X -> ~Y : if you like hawkwind, you will not like ABC. (im sure someone here is a counterexample...)

WRONG WRONG WRONG!

I disprove this....as do alot of rappers probably!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Bardo Pond
Phish

I actually think Leee's got the best one with that still.

x=bikini kill
y=le tigre

you know it's true

I certainly exhibit this one, but I think there are too many fans of ms. hanna who will like even the most worthless shit she can come up with to make it universal.

x -- boogie down productions
y -- mxpx

This is only a good example of a gross misunderstanding of punk in any of its forms (new, old, whatever). In fact I'd be willing to say it's more likely "If you like MXPX, you also like BDP."

X = Ween
Y = The Smiths

I just want to second the bullshit call on this one. If I bothered with lists, I can honestly say both of these bands would be in my top 25.
