ok, nice fun thread to start the day off...

tonight, matthew/cat/davina/whoever's presenting it at the moment, you would be ....? and why? and what song would you do?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

ha. I actually got the application form for this...

A number of people have said "Why not do Jarvis?" as I bear a sort of vague familial resemblance (I never wear black rimmed see through glasses for this reason). But as I said, "If you do that, though, it's officially over." (I still had vague ambitions in a musical direction).

But, one year, I thought "Heck, I could do Paul Weller's "Wild Wood". Solo, acoustic, and it would mean Paul Weller would know me and it would really piss him off. Which is a really good reason to do it...

By the time the form arrived, I'd thought better of it.

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd probably do "helen fordsdale" to teach the world about no wave and have the people drop their jaw on the ground. as encore - i know i know there's on encores and i would lose big time - i would do lady sovereign's "ch-ching" because i love fun as well.

I think it's the TV show where you try to both look and sound like your fave artist, and perform one of their tunes live.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Changed my mind, tonight I want to be one of Daft Punk. The one on the left, preferably.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I would be Aidan Moffat of Arab Strap and perform "Packs of Three":

"It was the biggest cock you'd ever seen, but you've no idea where that cock has been ... "

[cue ritual wave of applause from audience at end of first line]

Harthill Services (Neil Willett), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, that was then. Now, as soon as you said the words "In one single moment your whole life can turn 'round" there'd be that 'spontaneous' applause...

"Tonight, Cat, I'm going to be Mr Acker Bilk."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 09:26 (twenty years ago)

This could happen, next years' "Kids..."

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 09:28 (twenty years ago)

That will probably happen - Insufferable Musical Child Prodigies. PH34R the mock Vanessa Mae!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 26 April 2006 09:31 (twenty years ago)

After the last winner's "George Formby", the kiddieJazz will end, in favour of more Acker, Gracie Fields, Ruby Murray, and Gene Pitney.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 May 2006 07:06 (twenty years ago)

Me too. Or, alternatively, the first overweight Resident.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 25 May 2006 07:20 (twenty years ago)

Looks-wise I'm probably more David Thomas (Pere Ubu) than anything else.

Vocal-wise I'd probably want to go for Ian Curtis, probably doing "Atmosphere" (although I might be convinced to do "Love Will Tear Us Apart" in a pathetically desperate, misguided and futile gesture towards populism); unfortunately everyone else I know would try to set me up to do some piece of sloppy drivel by Tony bastard Hadley and Spandau bleedin' Ballet [spits] because, despite all my efforts to do otherwise, they still reckon I sould like him.

I can also do an uncannily accurate rendition of "This Is Not A Love Song" if required.

The Great British public would switch off / over in their millions, obv.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 25 May 2006 09:38 (twenty years ago)

A little while ago (i.e. years), they sort of advertised for stars they wanted people to do.

Iggy was one of them.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 25 May 2006 09:40 (twenty years ago)

"Big cock required."

I Hate You Little Girls (noodle vague), Thursday, 25 May 2006 09:45 (twenty years ago)

To be immediately followed by Harthill Services as Aidan Moffat of Arab Strap performing "Packs of Three".

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 25 May 2006 09:49 (twenty years ago)

"Tonight, Cat, I'm going to be the Late Great Freddie Garrity..."
