Kept on the DL, this could be an astonishing resource... or, as was suggested before, "the human face of piracy".
Is this part of what ILM is meant to be and is it a reasonable direction for ILM to be taking? Not that _I'M_ complaining mind you...

anyway, sure - its a great resource that has always been in place. i wouldnt fret for the cheapening of ILM discussion, though.

it makes me wonder how much longer labels, publicists, and publications will bother to keep the facade of building buzz via traditional channels. as we saw recently with political blogs, though, these same folks can and will infiltrate any outlet with cash outlays to co-opt the message. fascinating stuff.

sure. but he's the editor of the village voice music section and i'm a programmer in chicago. at the very least, it seems to me like the lead time for access to releases is extending. as this becomes more prevalent, the story will have been written long before magazines hit the streets.

I was already getting a bit fed up of so many threads being filled up with "Hey can anyone gmail me that track?" and "Me too - sorry!"s, which is why I set up The thread for gmail offers and requests. I thought that was working quite well, in concert with the equivalent for slsk requests. But everyone seemed to ignore it for the MIA one, which made that thread less of a 'let's anticipate the MIA album' and more of a feeding frenzy.

I also recall a chunk of that thread that's since been edited out by admins about how when I found myself sharing a cell with a rapist for my sins as a file-sharer, perhaps I'd think twice about my chutzpah.
How's trolling working out for you?

Anyway, I never answered your questions about my own involvement in the issue. At the time I wasn't prepared for it. Now, I guess I will. Back in May the FBI raided my home. Why? Solely on the basis of MP3's. Nothing more. I won't outline the exact details of my case, simply because I don't want to, but I will tell you this: I don't want anybody else to go through what I have been. I hired the worst possible lawyer ever for five thousand dollars who does his job poorly I'm considering lodging an ethical complaint against him. The past eight months have been a Kafka-esque nightmare. It really has. You can't even imagine it. In the near future I will be going to court. It is very likely that I will have prison time as part of my sentence. I wouldn't be the first.
You don't have to believe me about this, that's perfectly acceptable. Anyway, two comments:
There is a whole level of online music piracy that you (and please, do not take this as an insult) are completely clueless to. ILM is not the highest echelon of it, and neither are MP3 blogs. Almost all these leaked releases you salivate over originate from those higher levels. Maybe other posters on ILM know about this. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are a part of it, seeing as how many professional journalists post on ILM. Perhaps none of them are though. What I am sure though is, there are others like you who think they know the highest echelons but have no idea as to what lays outside their eyesight.
Last point. MP3 blogs are illegal. Yes, even yours. I'm sorry, but the argument you waged against me on MoFi is simply not true. I don't say this as an attack against you, but merely to inform you. It is likely that the FBI will never give two shits about you. You may be running your blog from a retirement home some day. It is also possible that you will go through what I have been the past eight months. It's not fun returning to your home to find a squad of FBI agents digging through every inch of your personal space, showing them logs of your online conversation, suddenly realizing that everything you've said in the past months has been monitored. Can they do this to you? Yes. Yes, they can. Will they? Probably not.
Lastly, don't think I'm involved in something I'm not telling you. No credit card fraud, child pornography, hacking, etc; no sir. Absolutely none of it. I've been going through hell the past eight months solely because of two things: MP3's and the internet.
Take from this what you will.

Lastly, I did get worked up in the original MoFi thread. I admit it. But please, try to place yourself in my shoes. Can you imagine how maddening it is to have a handful of people claiming that what you've been going through is impossible? It doesn't happen in real life! That never happens! You have it all wrong! No, I really don't. I'm not a paranoid schizophrenic. I did get worked up, but is it necessary to call me a troll? The first post was hardly trolling, and definitely nothing I've posted here is of that nature.

ILM is not, and never will be, a good source for new leaked music. There have been a few links to other sites posted here, and threads where people exchange contact information for the purposes of sharing music have been largely ignored by moderators. This kind of activity is not endorsed on these boards.
