Five Great Party Records

Excluding compilations/retrospectives and personal mixtapes, what are five great party records that you can play, beginning to end, in mixed company? People always expect me to provide some "good music" for parties, and I always end up watching for people to look at the stereo and whisper to their clique, "What is this shit?" Now, when I say beginning to end, I mean it. No dashing to the stereo to skip the one obnoxious track. Midnite Vultures would be a great one, except you have to skip "Debra" if it comes up on shuffle (cuz, you know, it's 13 minutes long). These don't have to be dance records, just good party music. Here are five that are usually successful:

1. Blondie - Parallel Lines
2. Os Mutantes - S/T
3. T. Rex - Electric Warrior
4. The Name of This Band is Talking Heads [Both Discs]
5. Arcade Fire - Funeral

and, if the crowd is really cool: Richard Hell - Blank Generation, baby.

I dont know what kinda party you nerds go to, but if you dont have a DJ these 5 ful lengths will get the party started!
Remember, a good party is when the girls starts dancing (ie; 80's, Strokes,etc.). Not when the boyfriends (us) are nerding out about obscure b-sides. You build up and then cool down(ie; Bob Marley).

2 Live Crew is what we are - 2 Live crew
80's Mega Mix -DJ Spinbad
The King Of What's Poppin: Chop/Screw- DJ Lt. Dan
Is this it- The Strokes
Legend - Bob Marley

Antonio DePietro, Thursday, 20 January 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

All of these parties are starting to sound pretty fun actually. I wonder if poortheatre will take any of these sterling suggestions on board for next parteee.

PiersT, Friday, 21 January 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the rock, but I can't listen to it at parties.

I recommend the Sound of Funk comps (vols 1-10) from Goldmine Soul Supply. Great rare early funk cuts with the right combination of groove and *WTF*.
