"some nerdy little 18 year old that still lives at home"

Woah. You're harsh.
What, did you have your own appartment at that age?

I HATE bidding on CDs on EBay and then they arrive and they're not the same version the cunts have put in the listing. Happened to me 3 times recently when they've listed the newly-remastered-with-tons-of-bonus-tracks version and it arrives and it's the crappy 80s version or something. GRARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Luckily all 3 did refund my money but still, what a waste of time.

I was in an appartment at 17, out of necessity but still...

I hate eBay for music in general.

gemm is a good idea.

I tried to find the image of the Judge test press some dude bought for like $800 on ebay and shipped uninsured but I couldn't

I've had good luck with GEMM, but there are some crap dealers on there, too; caveat emptor.

I found an obscure CD I've long been searching for for 8 bucks. There's a second dealer that shows up with a copy listed for $788.35. WTF?!?! I don't what kind of rarity he thinks he has, but he'll hold on to that eight hundred dollar disc for all eternity.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Thursday, 20 January 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, yeah, some people get crazy with their opening bids. i don't see too many people dropping 788.35 at a CHANCE for the album.

believe the star system on gemm

Nevermind the price... Half of vinyl on ebay ends up shipped without padding and with the record inside the sleeve where it's free to shake about and knock out the top, bottom or spine of the sleeve. Too many people selling vinyl who don't know the first thing about shipping it.

four years pass...

Scuffed vinyl, bent-ass corners and major sticker damage does not equal mint condition!

Eejits.

damn....what record?

omar little, Monday, 12 October 2009 22:18 (sixteen years ago)

A bunch of Mogwai 10"s & 12"s. It's not like they're in bad condition, but it's a pretty long way from "MINT! - Never played! - Like new!" etc. etc.

Also, if anyone has a minty-mint copy of Circle's "Sunrise" 2xLP, I'm in the market, that suffered corner postal damage too. Sigh.

I should learn not to buy records online, unless it's from folks I know I can rock solidly trust.

Or shed the shackles of my obsessive compulsive perfectionism.

krakow, Monday, 12 October 2009 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

Man, I understand the pain. This is exactly a big part of the reason why I gave up being any sort of obsessive chasing down vinyl online. You'd get all excited to finally find a near-mint copy of the album you'd been looking for, only to get either something beat to shit or (as happened to me twice) the completely wrong record in the sleeve! Not worth it.

yeah it sucks

omar little, Monday, 12 October 2009 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

I'm on the road to recovery, hopefully. I've survived a good month now living with my Magma box with its dinged corner. I can even sleep through the night without waking in a cold sweat from a dream of it falling to the floor in slow motion in obviously insufficient packaging!
