T/S Omoide Hatoba - Kinsei vs. Landed - Everything's Happening -- (Osaka vs. Rhode Island FITE)

Seek out both these recordings and see what you missed.

The Landed record sounds like Sightings, Pink and Brown and the B side of the first Liars LP.

"Kinsei" -- haven't quite wrapped my head around this record. There's a similarity to Landed's approach at times but it seems to have a pop aesthetic going on as well. There's way more varied instrumentation here too....

I have no real thesis; I just wanna talk about records!

Kinsei is great. If you like it then get the previous three OH albums too - I think they are even better.

Kinsei was the 5th record, right? (sixth even, i think, if you count Livers and Giggers)(which I've also not heard)

Today I am listening to the first four Omoide Hatoba records in chronological order

But yeah, these guys rule. I totally can't believe I haven't picked up Kinsei yet. I think I was the only person besides you to vote for them on the 90s Poll, Nate.

Yes, by my accounting, it was 5th.

There was the first one, which is atypical for them because it was more straightforward noise-rock, but I only heard it once or twice and that was several years ago.

There is the second one, Suichu Joe, which marks the big step into dadaist whimsy, and is perhaps the best.

There is the third, Black Hawaii, their Sgt. Peppers.

There is the fourth, Mantako, which is their Abbey Road, I think, and possibly the best.

And then Kinsei, which is like their Let it Be, if that makes any sense (it probably doesn't).

"PS - VERMIFORM RIP"

sam mcpheeters art RULES.

and vermiform was often a voice of reason in the emocore wilderness of the 90s. just when your ears had crusted over from genteel heart crush wounding, something totally fuckin weird would pressure wash that shit right off. glorious. "egyptian assassin!"

I've had Kinsei for awhile and it still sounds good, it's aged pretty well. I've heard another of theirs that was great too, might be Mantako, had a yellow and black cover.

Yeah, that's Mantako.

the records get poppier as they go on, songs get shorter and more condensed and there's more sonic variety from moment to moment. the earlier records are about hitting the noise groove and maybe go deeper, I still think 'kinsei' is my favorite though.

never heard 'vuoy' though -- any reports?

woah, "vuoy" came out after "kinsei"? i'd love to hear that.

I've got that Landed record. It's fucking terrible.

ten months pass...
Daiongaku is pretty great.... like somewhere between DNA, Neu! and Ghost. Some great keyboards.
