This according to Howard and Robin this morning. But,they neglected to mention where the saw the photos. They sounded shocked by how fast she gained so much weight, so I am presuming she looks Kirstie Alley sized now.

Hooray!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!
WTF?????!!!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!
ROFL!!!!!!!!!

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Friday, 21 January 2005 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather see her fat and happy than skinny and tragic.

Of course, it's only a matter of minutes before someone posts the Union-Square-suckling pic where she's carrying the HUGE bag of Wendy's ...

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 21 January 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen the pictures, but I am still unsure of their authenticity. They seem awfully fake.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Friday, 21 January 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Where'd you see the pix?

She may be turning onto Scientology w/ her friend Kirstie Alley's help, so maybe obesity comes with it?

"LOVE TURNED SCIENTOLOGIST?

Troubled rock chick COURTNEY LOVE has turned to Scientology as she battles for custody of her daughter FRANCES BEAN.

The former HOLE star - who is currently fighting her late husband KURT COBAIN's mother WENDY O'CONNOR for responsibility of Frances' care - thanks the controversial religion and devout KIRSTIE ALLEY in the liner notes of her last album AMERICA'S SWEETHEART.

CHEERS star Alley is the spokeswoman for drug treatment program NARCONON, which is based on the teaching of late Scientology founder L RON HUBBARD.

Alley has always credited the religion with saving her from drug addiction, saying, "I didn't want to do drugs any more, but I didn't want to love life without doing drugs, and life was just being squelched out of me. It was a slow death. I had one auditing session in Scientology, and I never did drugs again or had the urge to do drugs again."

A spokeswoman for the religion told THE SCOOP website she had "no idea" why the rocker would thank them.

Another message board I frequent. A couple of people from there post here. The troll that put it up is notorious for posting false, misleading, or bizarre and disgusting stuff on the site, so I take it with a grain of salt. The problem lies with most of society's perception towards Ms. Love and the fact that they'll believe anything horrible about her and feels that she deserves a life of misery and horror somehow.

ps: Kurt Cobain was a fucking asshole with a lot of talent.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Friday, 21 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Scientology is even weirder than Catholicism if you ask me.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Friday, 21 January 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, Brett. It's weird how her lips don't look so big anymore now that the rest of her is big, too.

Chubby Chaser, Friday, 21 January 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a pic in the print edition of today's New York Post. She's holding an orchid AND her head up high.

Rich (Rich), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It's weird how her lips don't look so big anymore

It could just be that she stopped getting animal protien injected into them.

Graeme (Graeme), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, please.

She got off the coke and crack combo - of course she'll gain some weight. I've seen her in person, I've seen the pics, she's not that big and even if she was, fuck off. She's clean, she's doing great, she has her daughter back, she's working extremely hard at correcting everything she wronged these past few years - more so than I've EVER seen her do before. She hit rock bottom and she's done a hell of a job at coming back up again.

And she's writing some fantastic music, as well. The failure, commercially and, somewhat, artistically, that was America's Sweetheart will be forgotten when she decides to return.

Trust me - and put those stupid remarks where they belong.

Topher in NYC, Friday, 21 January 2005 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope so Topher...I've been a hardcore fan for years, but the behavior this past year and her losing Frances and that album being as god-awful as it was just disillusioned me. I remained compassionate, but was very upset by the sad way her life was going.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, ha, Topher is sensitive to Courtney's plight!

Chubby Chaser, Friday, 21 January 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

my wife thinks yr really dreamy on That 70s Show Topher.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I'm sensitive to insensitive bullshit.

I know coke skinny makes a sexier story, but please. She's doing so well and if you can't stand that, well, too bad.

Topher in NYC, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray for rationality. Good show, Topher.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I just can't stand to see a shrill, egomaniacal, talentless harpy doing well. It's really kind of a downer.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

Chubby Chaser, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, that record was not a failure. It was the greatest thing she's done in years. I still listen to it almost daily. If you've heard new tunes, oh man that's just great, but I hope she's not reacting against America's Sweetheart cause it's fucking great.

danh (danh), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder, do any of you at least give her credit for going against the record labels for their outdated contracts? She stood up stronger than any other musician has on similar issues (see Pearl Jam V. Ticketmaster), but people never give her anything but shit. Granted, she puts a lot of it on herself, but there's still something to be said for "Live Through This" and "Celebrity Skin" as solid pieces of music.

Brett Hickman (Bhickman), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course the new one should be better because she has said she's not writing the songs AT ALL. Just the lyrics, I guess (if that).

Chubby Chaser, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That's her latest Corgan writing sessions, true. But there's more stuff than that.

And I agree with whoever said that AS is a good record, I just feel it was somewhat compromized and she obviously wasn't completely THERE while writing and recording.

Topher in NYC, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

For the first 3 or 4 track she's totally "THERE." sure it wanes a bit but she sounds great all over the record and the lyrics are great as usual. Maybe she just sounds really good when she doesn't give a shit. I don't know. But it beats Celebrity Skin for me.

danh (danh), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"I wonder, do any of you at least give her credit for going against the record labels for their outdated contracts? She stood up stronger than any other musician has on similar issues"

ummm, no. See Prince and George Michael and XTC....

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, those "great" lyrics... Like these, you mean?

All The Drugs
The devil's driving my car tonight and he's drunk
He's pissed he's mad
And i dont care which of you he fucks up
I have played with fire and the matches they are burning stillin my hand
They can try and shut me up they never can
They never will again
With all the drugs
With all the drugs
With all the drugs
Theres no-one in this bed
Obliterate the truth
Coz theres no lies
That i could be and you would know

Chubby Chaser, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I think her voice sounds shot pretty much all throughout the record, and lyrically she was nowhere near Celebrity Skin, which was multi-layered and poetic. Some of the lyrics on AS are just too obvious and one-dimensional.

And songs like Hello, I'll Do Anything and Zeplin Song are among the cheapest things she's ever recorded.

And the answer to this spells d-r-u-g-s. The lack of focus on that record is illuminated like a neon sign.

Topher in NYC, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's funny, you know, because I have always thought Hole sucked as far back as Pretty On The Inside, though that is the best thing they've ever done. Is it all the fault of the drugs, then?

Chubby Chaser, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

it wasn't the drugs, it was the HATERZ. tearin Courtney down! Why can't they all just leave her alone so she can be an ethically challenged, drug-addled, bitchy famewhore in peace!

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 21 January 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

multi-layered and poetic

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't mean to argue about this. God knows it's hard enough finding anyone else who'll take her seriously, but I'll Do Anything is a good song. It's the tossed off nature of the record that makes it so great. I don't want poetics and good voice. I want co-written rock/pop songs that she can tear through. For this record anyway.

danh (danh), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

threads like these totally fucking suck

it's tricky (disco stu), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeh I could care less how much weight she gains or whether or not she joins Vinnie and the rest of his church. I just can't stop laughing when people describe her lyrics as anything more than, well, garbage.

I'm not saying it's impossible to write a good song without good lyrics, I'm just saying she doesn't write lyrics well. At all.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Could you give us an example of some good lyrics Martin?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hasn't she been eating her young for years?

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Could you give us an example of some good lyrics Martin?

I'm aware that what makes "good lyrics" is completely subjective, and what I consider terrific writing in the context of song lyrics may or may not interest anyone here, but I think it would be difficult to argue that Courtney's lyrics are anything special.

Examples of lyrics that I think are brilliantly written: Anything by Frank Black (during and after the Pixies) or Robyn Hitchcock, off the top of my head and for starters. And if both of those are disqualified for being "weird" or whatever, then hell, Kurt wrote better (not strange) lyrics than Courtney ever will. And Robert Smith, even though he veers dangerously close to cliche in some of his love songs, writes good lyrics.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the Pixies, and Robyn Hitchcock's my favorite, but really, the lyrics are the worst part about the Pixies and Robyn's can get way to obscure for pop music.

You're posting in a thread mocking Courtney Love for her weight and your favourite artists are Frank Black and Robert Smith?

I didn't say they were my favorite artists, I said they were examples of well-written lyrics in my opinion. I am well aware that lyrical quality is subjective.

I also made a point of indicating that I do not care about Courtney Love's weight, and I didn't say anything remotely resembling mockery of said weight in spite of the subject the thread was started on. And yes, I am aware that Frank Black is a hefty dude and I am aware that Robert Smith has seen thinner days, but that has nothing to do with their writing, and I didn't create any kind of double standard by implying weight had anything to do with Courtney's writing either because it does not.

All I said was that I can't stop laughing when someone refers to her lyrics as anything more than garbage, and that is true.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

But you compaired her to two guys who write so-so lyrics about aliens and fish.

danh (danh), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Kurt Cobain wrote some lyrics about fish as well!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

the lyrics are the worst part about the Pixies and Robyn's can get way to obscure for pop music.

Regarding the Pixies, I disagree. Not much else that can be said since I'm not in the business of forcing my opinion down anybody's throat.

Regarding the "obscurity" of Hitchcock's lyrics, I made a point of indicating two other artists who write "non-strange" lyrics specifically because I figured someone would object to the relative quality of Hitchcock's lyrics using the argument that they were too "odd" or whatever.

Like I said, the point of my comment was not that everyone should agree with me. It was that I think Courtney Love writes ass lyrics.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

But you compaired her to two guys who write so-so lyrics about aliens and fish.

I didn't compare her lyrics to anything. I said her lyrics were crappy, Dom asked me to give an example of what I thought were good lyrics, and I gave a handful of examples.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, fine, I just re-read my post. I did directly compare Courtney's lyrics to Kurt's.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 21 January 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I like most of Robyn Hitchcock's lyrics. But the guy wrote a song about cheese that makes me absolutely cringe. And Ant Woman. Anyway, I cringed about five times listening to Jewls for Sophia (I haven't really listened to Spooked yet) and maybe twice to America's Sweetheart. Maybe twice. She can be sarcastic. I go by the cringe test.

The anti-Courtney screed isn't so much offensive as boringly repetitive. Why do Shakey, Alex etc. have to come onto every thread where she's mentioned merely to reiterate just how much they hate her? Is it an irresistible compulsion?

This is entirely unrelated to this, but I'm ripping tracks off various compact discs that are landing squarely in the "to SELL" pile, and I couldn't help noticing on the entirely needless soundtrack album to the massively abortive and thoroughly unenjoyable film, "Tank Girl" (which mercifully ended Lori Petty's career), the "executive music coordinator" is listed as -- wait for it -- COURTNEY LOVE-COBAIN

Not that I've been paying attention, but does she still trade under this hyphenized surname?
