I need help with a mixtape...

I KNOW this is cheesy, but please help me out here...

I'm in a relationship with this girl, and I'm looking for songs that say "I know that the past has been tough, but I still love you".

And most importantly, I'm looking for good songs here. I want to get her into good music while simultaneously getting the message across.

Don't worry about being eclectic...she likes some pretty weird music (Beefheart, etc.)...just not enough of it.

Any songs will work, just no 80's pop, etc....that type of thing.

Thanks.

Dude first you need to address the control problem. Don't "get her" into "good music," that snob shit is dead like the dinosaurs. Just love her, and maybe listen to her favorite stuff every once in a while.

Oh and "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green is all you need to get your point across anyway. If you don't have that in your collection she should think twice about you.

Haibun (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 23 January 2005 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

First thought: MJ's "I Just Can't Stop Lovin' You"
Second thought: Trick Daddy's "I Can't Leave You Alone"
Third thought: Elmore James' "Can't Stop Lovin' My Baby"

xpost: HAW! and a big FUCK YES to Rev. Vierde.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 23 January 2005 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, come on...

My original message didn't sound snobby at all, so don't try to make it into something like that.

I'm not trying to force my music on her...I just want to introduce her to new songs that she will like while at the same time getting my point across.

Chris Richell, Sunday, 23 January 2005 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

okay my bad, just checking

x-p: haha John Tofu is drunk and misspelling his Spanish

Haibun (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 23 January 2005 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Am not, I'm just a lousy speller in spanish.
Don't drink.
I am eating lots of candy and typing and on the internet and bundled in from the NY blizzard though.
So that's LIKE a mood altering substance.
and double x post: I was just laughing cuz I love the ILM perspective of "fuck you until found innocent".

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 23 January 2005 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

haha it's TROO. good for you not-drinking. get throo that blizzrd man, it snoo'ed a lot here but not too horribly

also, "I Can See Clearly Now," Johnny Nash; "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby," Sam and Dave

Haibun (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 23 January 2005 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Haibun (Begs2Differ), Sunday, 23 January 2005 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It's been hard doing anything
winter stuck around so long
I kept trying anyhow and I'm still trying now
just to keep working just to keep working
I remember when it didn't use to be so hard
this used to be impossible
A new season has to begin

Jason Molina / Songs:Ohia / Magnolia Electric Co - Almost Was Good Enough (Once)

Mickey (modestmickey), Sunday, 23 January 2005 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

The song doesn't blatantly address love, but within the context of a mixtape, sandwiched between the other songs people are recommending here, it would work.

Mickey (modestmickey), Sunday, 23 January 2005 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The Grass Roots, "Bella Linda."

pussy galore, "cunt tease" - if she can't find the humor in it and your situation, you need a new girlfriend anyway.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, no 80's pop? In the name of all that is good and holy, why not?

Jole, Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 23 January 2005 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

If I give a suggestion, she'll be partly my girlfriend.

Then I will bed her.

Rule # 1: Never ask for help with mix tapes. It makes them cheap.

Jimmy Mod always makes friends with women before bedding them down (ModJ), Sunday, 23 January 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Rule # 1: Never ask for help with mix tapes. It makes them cheap.

Great advice. However, make sure you post your selections on ILM after you finish it, so we can take them aprart.

bling bling

You should totally put "A Little Lost" by Arthur Russell on it, just because it's so fantastic that it might be the best song ever. To put on mixtapes for girls, that is.
