"After midnight, as I laid sweating in my hot ass bedroom listening to the boombox tribute of Marvin Gaye on WBLS, I once again gazed through those sepia-flicks that were buried deep in a dusty box in my mind. When the overnight DJ put the needle to the record and mixed in the lush "Let's Get It On," tears stained my pillow. In my dreams, me and Shelia slow danced until dawn. "

WHAT A WANKER!

Yeah, thanks 'Wullie.'

After far too many years of uninspired mediocrity masking as appreciation said about Gaye -- thanks for nothing, Paul Weller -- this is something else indeed, to understate drastically.

Re. Weller - Some would say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

"I also began to observe how radiant her brown nipples appeared in white tube-tops"

How can brown nipples be radiant? Do they glow in the dark or something?

FR Leavis, Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hence "brown-out".

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

what a horny whiner.

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

oh shit, I'm back in my college creative nonfiction writing class

mike h. (mike h.), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

spot on.

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

A couple of editing issues aside (oh, alright, and the radiant nipples), this is a very evocative piece. Solid writing. Don't understand the haters.

David A. (Davant), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I was unclear as to whether or not he actually did nail it

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This piece would do well on tangents.co.uk - If the crackhead soul sister was an chubby East Kilbride shopgirl and the subject was Dan Treacy instead of Marvin Gaye.

Reading that was, I'm afraid, a fucking horrible, shameful experience.

For all concerned.

Nice piece. I enjoyed that a lot. Kind of like Belle Du Jour rewritten by Nelson George.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 27 January 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

David Stubbs to thread! I didn't like this piece.
