Haven't yet seen the new, leaked Dr. Who, but am curious about his assistant, Rose (her name is title of the purloined return; a tablod tries to buy rights to her life story after she survives a spectacular explosion). Played by Billie Piper, said to be a teenpopper, now 21, and having crossed over to drama, via The Canterbury Tales and Belle And The Boys. Really cute, but even more importantly, what's her music like?

She made the two best Britney Spears singles not made by Britney Spears.

1. "Honey To The Bee" - greatest Lolita-pop single of the 1990s. Absolutely astonishingly CREAMY WORLD OF BLISS to get lost in. Also, incredibly gross - she sings the word "honey" as if it's "horny". She was about 16 at the time.

2. "Day And Night" - basically, if you think "Oops I Did It Again" is great and you don't like this, you're foolish.

Also recorded a rubbish version of "The Tide Is High", but her second album is rather better than most people think.

"Honey To The Bee" is the one that sounds like "Never Ever", though not as much as "Pure And Simple" by Hear'say, mind.

I've recently acquired the second album, Lex, a friend of mine was going to throw it out, but I rescued it - "Run That By Me" is great, for instance.

"Vet" because the bbc news thingie mentioned that she'd been recording since 16-odd, and is now 21. So, she did all that incl. ripping off "Never Ever"? Ooh wee. BBC claimed that most Dr.Who fans were favorable, even excited, but some scorned her as not a real (incl. "trained") actress.

The first three sound really dated - especially "Girlfriend", but I'm personally quite amazed how well "Something Deep Inside" - not a favourite at the time - stacks up today. "Day And Night" is very much of its time, but is so blustery that it still works.

And Lex, of COURSE I saw the elbow dance. I didn't live in a cave when it came out!

'day and night' is amazing, ah the golden age of 'baby one more time' copyists! (the best was probably samantha mumba's 'gotta tell you', totally awesome.) can teenpop get back there asap please.

i love 'honey to the b' (i'm SURE it was B rather than Bee originally, cos i remember taking ages to get the pun) but it feels soiled now it's been approved by moyles. the cunt.
