Let us talk of Panico

Fluxblog talked about 'em a couple of weeks back and I'm listening to the Subliminal Kill album right now and loving it -- there's something about the lead vocalist that, perhaps weirdly, makes me think of Tim Taylor of Brainiac (a LOT less extreme/crazy, I should note, but there's a similar sense of gleeful sleaze as opposed to emo angst, say). Their alleged website at http://www.panicoband.com seems to have died, they're a quintet from Chile and that's about all the rest I know. Add in more if you like.

Oh yeah, there's also a STRONG hint of the more off-kilter/spacier/funk side of Bauhaus circa Mask on a couple of these tracks, like "Iguana." Hmmm...

oh! Well the new website can be found here :) I sort of love Panico and the current label they are on. http://www.tigersushi.com/panico

the records are good but live they are incredible. they look like a seriously dangerous chilean street gang and the girl bassist has the best cheek bones since blixa bargeld circa 1985. the zongamin remix of 'lupita' rocks.

I DJ'd a party a couple weekends ago, and I played "Transpiralo" and the guy who was running the sound ran over to me and was amazed that someone was playing them, we knew them in Chile. That was pretty cool. I really enjoy the record - I've been grabbing some older material from a user named "isobelle" on slsk.

Um, HE knew them in Chile.

Yeah, I get this sense they could really bring it live. Nice to hear that this is confirmed. A Zongamin remix, you say? Hm!

It sounds like a lot of the record was recorded live in the studio with overdubs.

five years pass...

So there's a new album and it's great. "Algodon" is one of those rare songs that makes me think of the Jesus and Mary Chain without actually just trying to clone them. (The Spanish verses help.)

seven years pass...

Highly recommend the post-Panico duo Nova Materia, had a couple of EPs on Chloe's label, debut album out on Crammed Disc Friday, and here's the new single/video
