THE THESIS

The Bravery are part of an important tradition whereby the scene du jour (currently the post-punk revival) produces a farcical and grotesquely derivative group who serve notice of that scene's creative death. Realising this we can all move onto something new and stop wasting our time.

HISTORICAL PRECEDENTS:

Garage rock revival: Jet
Nu-Metal: Staind
Trip Hop: Sneaker Pimps
Britpop: Menswear/Northern Uproar

Note that these groups are often condemned by the scene's initial adherents (Strokes->Jet, Killers->Bravery) but often have quite a lot of commercial success.

So, people, who are the equivalents for grunge, acid house, prog rock &c?

I don't think they necessarily serve as a death knell - they often appear quite quickly after a sound gets big. And I don't think they're always bandwagon jumpers either. Often, the bands are pre-existing, but record companies (or hell, the public) suddenly pay them attention that wasn't paid before.

I wouldn't say acid house is necessarily dead, and even if it was, Fatboy Slim would hardly qualify as a participant. Recent champions of the sound as it first appeared in Chicago include Chris Carrier vs. Fries & Bridges "School Of Acid," Tiefschwarz' "Acid Soul," and Chris Duckenfield of Swag's recent "Bad Acid" comp featuring Freaks, Soul Mekanik, and Mr. Barcode (Jay Tripwire), among other respected producers. I'm just sayin'. :)

A lot of people thought D-Mob's "We Call It Acieeed" was the death-knell for the genre. That was in 1988.

Staind weren't really bandwagon jumpers, they were sucking right along with Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc. right from the beginning.
