(I did a cursory search of the archives and didn't see anything like this thread topic.)

I always wanted this record if only because of both title and cover, but never picked it up...

i bought mark eitzel's caught in a trap and i can't back out 'cause i love you too much, baby 98 percent 'cause i loved the title and 2 percent 'cause once upon a time i had loved american music club very much. listened to it maybe twice and don't remember a thing about it.

that barrence whitfield cover is genius.

I actually saw the Raunch Hands once. I think they were opening for Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Wow. Seems a bit incongruous.

In any event, I remember the ad for this record in some cruddy rock mag...had a picture of a tied up fat lady with a hose in her mouth, captioned: "Does Yo Mama Know How to Whap-a-Dang?" Curiosity sent reeling, I immediately figured it must be an utter classic, but never found it (or, more likely, forgot to look for it every time I went album shopping). No idea if it ever made it to compact disc, and it would probably be a huge letdown down. But, ya never know.

The answer is "Please Kill Yourself So I Can Rock" by Love 666

Alex, look, I even found corroborating evidence, and 1987 sounds exactly right: http://bomplist.xnet2.com/9705/msg00255.html

You've never heard Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds"? That's where the title came from.

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Sunday, 8 May 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard the album, and it's really mediocre, but I want this for the cover anyway.

You've never heard Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds"? That's where the title came from.

um, yeah. that's WHY the title's so great.

Okay, I was gonna say...

The Feist album in the US. That cover is just beautiful. I know it's pathetic, but I want the CD mostly because of it.

That Pungent Stench one is a Joel-Peter Witkin photo- "The Kiss" I think. Those are two halves of the same severed head a-smoochin'. Witkin is one sick puppy.

Also, I want to own every Mr. Scruff release... if only they had a somewhat good hit/miss ratio.

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 9 May 2005 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I think stunt rock has some pretty amusing song titles

vanessa novaeris (novaeris), Monday, 9 May 2005 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

STARSHIP BEER!

I so want that!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 9 May 2005 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The only record I want only for the cover is the 1st pressing of Belphegor "The Last Supper" - I've already posted the pic a few times in the past so I won't do it again, but it features a quite realistic picture of a foetus on a dinner plate, partly sliced up like a piece of roast. Easily the most tasteless sleeve I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a lot.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

ALex, I still have my LP copy if you want to hear it. I used to see them all the time back in the day. I knew somebody who was friends with April March who dated the guitar player or something like that.
I saw the lead singer, Chandler, at the Film Forum a few years ago and he didn't look like he was in the best shape.

You've never heard Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds"? That's where the title came from.

um, yeah. that's WHY the title's so great.
You trying to out-fact-check fact-checking cuz? A losing proposition.

Ken L (Ken L), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers, Ken. Don't worry about it, though. Like I said, there's virtually no way it could possibly live up to my expectations by this point.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought Whitey's: "The Light at the End of the Tunnel is a Train" because I loved the title so much..

Eva (Gaia1981), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

That is a brilliant title, yes.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Inspired by finally seeing "Mayor of the Sunset Strip," those Rodney on the ROQ compilations. I don't think they would get much play, if any, but the covers are hot.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Monday, 9 May 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Sugar Ray - Lemonade and Brownies

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Monday, 9 May 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The GF bought me that Pungent Stench LP for Valentime's Day last year.

NO SHIT.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 9 May 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen Barrence Whitfield play in a couple of different band configurations -- good stuff -- don't know about his recorded output. I recall him saying his real name is "barry white" but he couldn't use it for the obvious reason.

I love the Have Moicy! album -- Unholy Modal Rounders, Clamtones, and Michael Hurley.

I also have the 7" for Computer Games...someone found it in a thrift store and thought I would dig it -- it's amusing; great lyrics.
