introducing myself

I sort of stumbled across this site and I like it - a nice combination of intelligence, knowledge, presumption and idiocy!

I have a fairly massive collection (roughly 6000 CDs, and let's not talk about vinyl.)
I'm always looking for trades, if that sort of thing is done here. I've got a list if anyone is interested. I searched and found an old extinct thread where people
were looking for copies of out-of-print CDs by the Fire Engines, Mark Perry,
Microdisney, David Toop-curated titles and loads more that I've got. My interest
started with the punk/postpunk thing, but I like a lot of older rock and esoteric
stuff, especially reggae to about 1978, really old country, weirder folk stuff, 60s
soul (especially of the southern variety), with forays into African and Asian musics
and about a billion other things. If you've got a want/trade list, send it along!

Nice to meet you all,

Dee

Do you not have anything that is melodic?

Comstock Carabinieri (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course! But melodic stuff tends to stay in print longer. And what's more melodic than "Candyskin" or "Town To Town?"

Dee Xtrovert (dee dee), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"Nessun Dorma" is more truly melodic than either. As is "Begin The Beguine."

No neither is as 'melodic' than Candyskin or Town to town. Check!

You are inaccurate. "Candyskin" is a rip-off of "Hot Love" by T Rex. "Town To Town" is a rip-off of "Beautiful Sunday" by Daniel Boone. You are insufficiently knowledgeable of melodic pop of the 1970s, which should be remedied, as it was the golden age of melody in post-Beatles pop.

Comstock Carabinieri (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Lack of knowledge has nothing to do with it - "Candyskin" out-glams and improves on"Hot Love." "Beautiful Sunday" is the highlight of Daniel Boone's career but still a crap song, whereas "Town To Town" is a lowpoint of Microdisney's but still quite nice.

And rhetorical questions are not meant to be answered. Did you really think that within my "list" of three artists would magically be included the two most melodic songs ever? That's a rhetorical question, by the way.

Dee Xtrovert (dee dee), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

And, heck, I was singing "Rock and roll bum" to myself only this morning! (Fact!)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not interested in out-glams. Speak English. I am talking about formal melodic construction. As the two songs which you mention fall short of proper structure, they are inferior to other, more melodic songs, such as "The Moon's A Harsh Mistress" or "Mother Of Mine."

Memo: try to remember to log out gaaaahhh!!!!

Comstock Carabinieri (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Heck! Someone talking about early 1970s melodic structure. I knew...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Much like the career of Middle of the Road, it was never destined to last.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

HAH! Suspicions confirmed. (That Daniel Boone reference was the clincher.)

Welcome to ILM, Dee.
