Well, for a start, it's not called "Teenage WAIstland" [sic], it's called "Baba O'Reilly".

barbara o. waistline is my favorite who song ever

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 27 May 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I was in a liquor store once, and "Baba O'Riley" was playing on the radio.....at that one part, some redneck in the back yelled, "Don't cryyyyyy / Don't raise your eyyyyyyye / It's oooonlyyyy teenage waistband", thus rendering the song useless to me forever. I hate when that happens.

Baba O'Reilly and the rest of Who's Next = dull, duller, dullest.
Give me The Who Sell Out or a compilation of their weird, arty little 60's singles any day.

Jim M (jmcgaw), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

this is my favorite who song, ir eally think it is underrated.

In what strange and wondrous world is this song considered underrated?

righteousmaelstrom (righteousmaelstrom), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this thread about the working title of That 70's Show?

They also thought about calling it "Reeling in the Years".

(the weekend at the college didn't turn out as you planned/ the things that pass for knowledge I can't understand)

I'm having a hard time believing this is real.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I also think both Who's Next and Tommy, although they're both great records, are definitely overplayed and overrated. The Who Sell Out is undoubtedly they're most underrated moment.

Yeah, well, just because Who's Next is great doesn't mean Sell Out isn't the brilliant. Especially the extra CD track - "Glow Girl". No I never said Who's Next was better than Sell Out.

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Sunday, 29 May 2005 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's Next is better than Sells Out. in a walk.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 29 May 2005 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it really is a great song and i'm no Who fan.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

All 70s WHO albums are better than all 60s Who albums other than perhaps "Who are you", which probably isn't as good as The Who Sell Out. It's still better than the others.

That said, I think of "Tommy" as a 70s WHO album, just because it has more in common with their 70s 'work' than their 60s 'work'.

I like Teenage Waistland too. "The Who by Numbers" is possibly my favourite, though I'm a massive fan of "Odds & Sods" too, especially the reissued one with tons of extra tracks on it, proper album or not.
