I wanted to love her (squeaky-voiced folksytronica), but by the fourth or fifth song I was bored to tears. There may still be a track or two worth rescuing from the album...

Having only heard isolated tracks I can't comment on Sean's theory, but what I've heard is sweet as pie.

i can't hear much sqeakyness in her voice - instead it's quite smooth with bluesy downturns. yes, it's all a bit twee but the songs have inetresting chord changes and lovely melodies. that's about all i look for in music these days.

I've always thought "the best thing since ball-point pens" would be a far better saying...

i like the original 'ease' much better than the sutekh mix. alba, did you ever hear it? that floaty instrumental extended outro is achingly pretty

jermaine (jnoble), Saturday, 12 November 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I gmailed him it

... and I'll gmail him the 4th (?) track on the nathan michel record, which reminds me of ease, when I'm on my computer

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 12 November 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

jermaine (jnoble), Sunday, 13 November 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...

Has anybody else heard this years Rykestrasse 68? It's my favourite album of songs this year. Even the Pixies cover is a good idea.

Oh, Hanne is probably my favourite artist of the last two years!

Stevie T, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

It's one of those albums that's crept up on me. I keep sticking it on late at night and now realise how well I know most of it.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:52 (eighteen years ago)

You know, I had the first album for an age and I thought it was ... perfectly pleasant Stina-stuff... And then a friend's band supported her at the Luminaire in London, and I went along to see them, really. And Hanne and her band played after, and they were so brilliantly, quietly compelling that as the show progressed, every chattering barhound in the place ended up completely transfixed. It was truly magical! By the end the whole place was hanging on the band's every note!

Saw her again this year at the RFH, but the venue was no good. :/ But the Rykestrasse album is great. 'Obelix' is a big hit of 07 here at home.

She's an amazing vocalist and songwriter. Sick arrangements and musicianship on both albums.

four years pass...

Still not sure I'm enamoured with the voice, but I like the way the new album Featherbrain balefully clatters:

Just discovered that similar Norwegian artist Jenny Hval wrote Hukkelberg's press release. I suspected there was some sort of connection/scene/something in the water. Hval's Viscera from last year is highly recommended for Hukkelberg fans:
