i'm listening to a vinyl copy of the white album that was direct metal mastered from a digitally re-mastered original tape and boy does it sound like it

i couldn't find my early press/numbered apple copy. the drums sound like they were re-recorded in 1988.

gated snare or albini?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

808?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

is this a good thing or a bad thing? when was it remastered??

(total confusion)

piscesboy, Friday, 3 June 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's a bad thing. they tried to make it sound CD-like. and i guess they succeeded. it's a british pressing from, i dunno, the 90's?

So Jeff Lynne can't be blamed this time then? It's so easy.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

scott, why aren't the initial letters of each word in this thread title capitalized?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, dig it, an analog record made digital and then put on vinyl and then...it makes the head spin. it sounds quite different from the original. i think i have 3 copies of the white album and they all sound different. in this case though, early=best.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

it depends on how sleepy i am. sometimes i try and wake myself up by capitalizing. or i'm drunk. one or the other.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

How is Cyrus doing? Less sleep lately?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

cyrus is cool. he sleeps a lot.he is wide awake and cranky around 8 at nite, so it's not that bad. maria is getting the worst of it, cuz she feeds him at nite. but we are both pretty sleepy. but good! happy! you know?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

you play him one of those ltd. edition of 1 million first White Albums to help him go to sleep?

Beta (abeta), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, i got the white album out last night cuz maria thought he might like rocky raccoon. he liked it okay.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't there a lullaby on the rec?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

the pictures on the inside of the gatefold are tinted weirdly on this reissue copy too. don't know about the 4 glossy pics and the poster. they look pretty normal. but i haven't inspected the originals lately.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"cry baby cry"/"goodnight" that would have made a good single.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 3 June 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

why own more than one copy of the white album? maybe this is a silly question.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 4 June 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

so you can play them all at once for the hidden messages.

SCOTT SEWARD.... THIS IS YOUR LIFE

JW (orion), Saturday, 4 June 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know how that happened. stuff happens. i probably didn't have a good copy, so i bought a reissue somewhere used and then found a nice original copy and then i found another one for a dollar and couldn't resist. i don 't even know how many i've owned over the years. they come and go like ships on the Mersey.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 4 June 2005 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Life goes on day after day
Hearts torn in every way
So ferry `cross the Mersey
`Cause this land`s the place I love
And here I`ll stay
People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care
So ferry `cross the Mersey
And always take me there
The place I love

People around every corner
hey seem to smile and say
We don`t care what your name is boy
We`ll never turn you away

So I`ll continue to say
Here I always will stay
So ferry `cross the Mersey`
Cause this land`s the place I love
And here I`ll stay

And here I`ll stay

Here I`ll stay

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 4 June 2005 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 4 June 2005 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

no, nothing that fancy. they usually sound swell.
