In 2001, yes, but it went out of print shortly after. ReR still has it on their online catalogue, but in reality they don't have any copies. Had to find that one out the hard way.

I'd be glad to buy someone's copy... for a reasonable sum.

I signed up for an email in mid-2003, asking for information about This Heat reissues.
Haven't heard anything yet.
What about the self-titled album? Is These planning a reissue of that too? I can't remember.

These Records confidently assured me "a re-mastered and re-packaged version is 'almost' ready to go into production,
and hopefully could be available soon. We will keep you informed of availablity. Thanks for the enquiry and your interest."

Unfortunately that was on the 6th February 2003 and I've heard absolutely squat from them since.

They are completely different. Deceit is more song-based. But it's just as great. Do you need more than that?

Erm, not to nitpick, but yeah, I need more than that. I mean, I love s/t, so would I be totally confused by Deceit? Does "song-based" = more accessible, or are they not those sorts of songs?

How often do you listen to the s/t? IMO, it's much better and you only need Deceit if you really need to hear singing added to the This Heat sound (I didn't). I would almost recommend the Quiet Sun album before Deceit.

The singing is a mixed blessing. Sometimes very effective (e.g. "Sleep," "Makeshift Swahili"), sometimes slightly grating (e.g. "Triumph," "Independence"). But the music is quite different--while there is some continuity, I don't think you can really say it's the same "sound" as the s/t.

their harmonies and the accessibility (resemblance to pop/rock stuffs) is what makes Deceit one of my all time favorite records. Likewise Health and Efficiency. And the pick of Camberwell Now and solo stuff. And the Flaming Tunes tape.

when i picked up the Deceit reissue from a few years back, they were in some sort of digipack design that had raised plastic molding, cutting into the cd itself. had to return a few copies before finding one that didn't come 'scratched.'

Also - was there any difference between the fancy digipack reissue of Deceit and the old CD version? I snagged the latter off of eBay a long time ago, and heard that the now-OOP reissue blew that version away.

i couldn't hear any difference between the digi-packed and first CD editions. after a bunch of comparison listens, i got rid of the reissue and kept the latter, simply because i prefer how the liner notes are presented in a fold-out sheet rather than as a flimsy insert.

dan otm... same with a lot of tim buckley's catalogue, and american releases of harmonia, pop group, orange juice, etc... there's gotta be more interest in any of those albums than half the ho-hum crap you can buy on amazon.... i have burns of deceit, s/t, and made available, but i'd buy them if they were available.

was there every a thread on the Camberwell Now re-issue? I like it as much as s/t and deceit.
