Non Italian 80s songs that sounded like Italo Disco

Criteria: No Italians involved in performing nor writing/production. (So no Giorgo Moroder, but his 80s work didn't sound like Italo Disco anyway)

Some examples:
The Flirts: Passion
Yazoo: Situation
Righeira: Vamos a La Playa
Pet Shop Boys: One More Chance (original version)
Pet Shop Boys: Paninaro

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Funkapolitan - Run Run Run

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Righeira is an interesting choice, as they were 100% Italian.

Koens (Koens), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Laura Branigan: "Self Control", "Gloria"

Ryan Pitchfork, Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Righeira is an interesting choice, as they were 100% Italian.

Spanish, weren't they?
Anyway, songwriter La Bionda was Italian, so I guess that disqualifies them anyway.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

all of the Gina X albums

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Laura Branigan: "Self Control", "Gloria"

Both songs were written by Italians

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Spanish, weren't they?

Only Spanish thing about them = lyrics to first two hits.

Koens (Koens), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok. Italian group. Spanish lyrics. Portogues name. Was there anything Latin or Romanian about them in addition? :)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Telex - Moscow Disco (from belgium)

I got slammed by a patron this past Saturday for playing "too much techno" when I played this back to back with 808 Express by Company B (1986 Miami dance song made by the guy behind the Disco band Foxy).

"Play more 80's", she said.

(I know what it's like to be dead. I know what it is to be sad...)

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Play more 80's", she said.

Did you shoot her?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you shoot her?

"If PappaWheelie was a Gunslinger, They're'ed be a Whole Lotta Dead Requesters"

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Magazine 60 - "Don Quixote"
Pet Shop Boys - "Jack the Lad"

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

There's tons and tons of Spanish and German "Italo", but the best one has to be Laser Dance (Dutch), who sounded more Italian than any Italo producer ever did.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Abba - Voulez Vous

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Laser Dance

Spoonich. Fantastic!

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"Face To Face - Heart To Heart" and "Not The Loving Kind" - The Twins (German).

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"If PappaWheelie was a Gunslinger, They're'ed be a Whole Lotta Dead Requesters"

DUDE! WHY ARE YOU PLAYING THIS SHIT? CAN'T YOU PLAY SOMETHING WITH A -

*blam*

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: Incidentally, "Not The Loving Kind" has some great lyrics:

You know you won't succeed
In winning cocks with chicken feed
The signs are there for you to read

Your efforts are effete
The stake's too high for easy meat
Why don't you just admit defeat?

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"living on video" by trans-x (france, i think)

joseph (joseph), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"You" - Boytronic (German).

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

...and Trans-X were Canadian.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Animotion - "Obsession"

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't know if it's 80's but "I Get Excited" by the PSB's is pretty Italo. Though maybe veering closer to Hi-NRG. Amazing song, nonetheless.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

...and Trans-X were Canadian

i sorta figured this after i'd posted. oops.

joseph (joseph), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a fine line between Hi-NRG and Italo Disco, I would say. A lot of songs may be considered both.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Fox The Fox 'Precious Little Diamond'

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, from now on Hi-NRG and the Pet Shop Boys are banned from this thread.

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

blondie "heart of glass"...although, i'm not sure if it's late 70's or early 80's.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"can't get you outta my head" by kylie is too contemporary to apply to the original question but it sounds very italo to me.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Practically anything by Lime (from Quebec, as were Gino Soccio and Trans-X).

Patrick (Patrick), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think "Bustin Out" by Material has a kind of italo-ish beat and general feel, if you conveniently overlook the loud distorted guitars. So, uh, overlook them.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Kylie - "Shocked"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

erasure "oh lamour","love to hate you"

andy bell, Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Patrick, OTM regarding Lime.

Again, there's just too much - Bobby O and Lime alone could fill a wheelbarrow.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Peter Richard - Walking In the Neon (Spanish I believe)

recently, Dannii Minogue - I Begin To Wonder
