Who is More Washed-Up: Fred Durst or Xtina Aguilera?

My wife's favorite game is to sit around with friends over many drinks and several bitchy ciggies discussing which celebs/public figures are washed-up. There are different levels of washed-up'edness, like "rinse cycle" and some other finer points, but basically, it's just a matter of sizing up and dressing down the careers of falling stars. Both of these names came up during a sweltering round at a Brooklyn barbecue party yesterday, and fisticuffs nearly ensued.

So, which do you pick (if either)? I'd love to say Durst, but Limp Bizkit just released something (which is no guarantee of maintaining relevance....what if it flops?), but I can't remember the last time Ms. Aguilera did anything of note or even made a public appearance that caused any noticeable ripples.

I would say Durst as well.

Xtina has some vocal talent, and hasn't trashed out to Britney levels YET. Those two things lead me to think that people might still find her relevant.

I'm being serious here when I say that X-tina could do a standards album and it would sell pretty well -- she still has her voice after all, whereas Durst has his ballcap collection and odd sexual narcisisim. As Durst is not a woman (insert joke here), his sexual narcisisim amounts to a '0' on the interest scale. So I would guess that she has the better chance of NOT being washed up because she can still sing, and/or release a sex video.

I couldn't care which is more washed-up. Limp Bizkit's going to be making a video for whichever of the tracks on their new EP the fans want and right now "The Priest" is winning. I can't wait to see what insanity they've got prepared for that. As long as Durst retains just enough fame and success to keep doing crazy shit I'm happy.

Xtina took nearly three years between her debut album and her follow-up, and the follow-up was even more successful.

Xtina's oing great, I don't see how she's anywhere near a downward slope - she maintains a decent profile for someone who's not releasing music at the moment, and she seems to have already had her off-the-rails phase. She hasn't seemed fucked up or desperate in any way for years. And she's getting married soon!

Well, 8701 did awright on that tip, Candicissima, but Confessions had it all over that album by about 18472 singles. The big problem with Confessions is that "Yeah" wears out its welcome wupermegaquickly and "Confessions Part 2" is one of the most retarded ballads that hasn't been recorded by R. Kelly. You would have to force me to listen to that album at gunpoint (and I really like "Caught Up" and "My Boo" a lot).

Wouldn't this kind of tell you that Britney isn't actually taking a break? Also, as pointed out before she did the exact same thing between her first two albums and it didn't seem to hurt her career.

Alex, that's just the time since the album came out...she was on tour for a long while and her songs were all over the radio into late 2003/early 2004 at least.

Regardless, I know for a fact that she's in the studio now and the record is expected late this year or early next year (as of writing).

I find it weird (personally) that Aguilera is one of those people I always find myself defending. I rarely stick up for musicians, but she's one of the ones that I do.
