Yo! does anyone know what this track is? and, indeed, whom it is by? the sole lyric seems to be 'time keeps slipping into the future'. it's a modern funk thing i think, with a great dirty ascending synth riff every few bars.

thanx!

Are we not talking about Steve Miller Band? Something that samples it I guess?

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

"Fly Like an Eagle" by Steve Miller Band?

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

He says

Sounds like some sampled thing. Not sure what is meant by modern funk though.

Steve Miller had a knack for writing almost-good yet crappy songs.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

That's "Delorean Crunk" by Doc Brown (TiTor remix).

Like when "The Joker" comes on, I almost always like it for a few seconds and then it starts sounding really retarded to me.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

the disco-ness of "macho city" has been pointed out and canonized, so i need not rep it here.

Wasn't there an EPMD song that samples Fly Like an Eagle? first album maybe?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Like when I start to sing Big Old Jet Airliner, and about 6 bars into it, I realize that I'm drowing in shit.

But the idea of singing it seemed so enticing at the time.

Same for Jungle Love.

Same for Fly Like an Eagle.

Same for...

Yeah, although it, uh, slips my mind at the moment.

Wasn't a Biz Markie song the first to do it?

"abracadabra"?

Sounds like you might have heard the Seal cover of "Fly Like An Eagle." Were you, by any chance, listening to the SPACE JAM soundtrack?

(I still feel like the joke must be on me for posting to this thread -- identify me "if I leave here something something free as a bird something something" k thx)

Oh, he was good for some harmless pseudo-blues pseudo-electro ditties almost as tuneful as the real thing. I don't see the point in hating him, unless you want to blame classic-rock radio for swamping him in millions of royalties year round.

i hope we can get 100% confirmation of the identity of the track chris griffin asks about. i think i know the one he means, but not who it's by, and it's been bugging me too for years! the track i'm thinking of is indeed a "Fly Like An Eagle" sample, repeated over and over, but is otherwise all instrumental

i'm pretty sure i heard it on the john peel show originally - early 1990s IIRC

That's "Delorean Crunk" by Doc Brown (TiTor remix).

Hey Pappa you were thinking of Nobody Beats the Biz and I was thinking of Your a Customer

Thanks M@TT!

I'm betting $5.75 that it's Nightmares on Wax "Back to Time", judging by the description of it and the fact that it may've been heard on Peel's show.

so so sooooo OTM. And "Fly Like an Eagle" painfully brings me back to being trapped on Sunday's in Sears and Radioshack as my father browsed VERY SLOWLY for some tool/component. I mean did they play anything else during the 80's? I hope I never have to hear this fucking remix. CLOSE THREAD!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

"great dirty ascending synth riff every few bars" - but that just sounds like the old version. although i would say it was more slick than dirty - like being brushed with some teflon fibers while staring at that fiberoptic glow ball in Radioshack -- leaves you painfully below the euphoria threshold yet still launched out into bad outspace filled with blackness and the occasionally pink diagramn. and now something masochistic in me wants to here the remixes. pls. CLOSE THREAD!

one year passes...
I've just found a CD single by "Habit- Fly Like An Eagle" it has those lyrics with a techno beat to it.
