i really thought no-one else had ever heard the spooky album - i was lent it by a friend about seven years ago, and almost didn't listen to it because i mistook it for a dj spooky album. i think he'd just bought it randomly in selectadisc without knowing anything about it... i see they had another album, though:

Old Guerilla records staple and the only thing I've ever liked her on (including the god-awful but much celebrated "Talking With Myself")
My additions to this list are:
Blueboy - UnisexCandyflip - MadstockWorld Of Twist - Quality StreetThe Wolfgang Press - QueerEven As We Speak - Feral Pop Frenzy
and good call on the Sharkboy album, though I always preferred the single version of "Crystaline" by a wide margin.

This thread also makes me think of 'Plug' by Sloy, a French band.
I listened to this record loads while annoying my Shellac loving pals by disingenuously maintaining they were far better, this is an Albini recording and you can hear why they used him, but it's still a fun listen.
Maybe somewhere between Shellac and the Breeders first record.

ultros ultros-ghali glad you liked most of those! I will check out P.E.E. more sounds good so far (sampled a few tracks, more proper listening later). Yes unfortunate- imagine that show poster! Milf and PEE.
Speaking of, I'm striking out! I remain the only Milf fan I know besides the few corners of the web that helped me discover them. I'll at least highlight their catchiest sing-along-iest song imo as a final attempt:

ums glad you like Fudge! Agreed they've got everything going for them to forever live in dollar bin purgatory, but they're also great.
― Evan, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 02:52 (five years ago)
Sloy sounds cool! Got a Mclusky vibe from that track.
The mention of Albini reminds me to re-emphasize how good 18th Dye is btw! They should have been legends...

I still rep for Hammerbox. The main riff of this is super Nirvana-derivative, but the verses go in a much different direction, and the noisy solo kills.

Huh, I knew a (different) band called Difference Engine back in the '90s.
I'm guessing this is yet another Difference Engine than the one I randomly encountered taking band photos in a laundromat in Rolling Meadows, Illinois back in 2001.

― CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 22 April 2021 19:52 (five years ago)
Odd cause discogs doesn't have that many different Difference Engines, and I'm not sure what kind of better, different search engine to rely on to parse the differences in different Difference Engines.
xp
― Evan, Thursday, 22 April 2021 19:55 (five years ago)
Ha, I'm not sure I can offer much more clarity, these guys walked in to the laundromat, had a guy take a few photos and walk back out. I talked to one guy briefly, who told me their band was called "Difference Engine" but didn't offer up anything further. I searched their name when I got back home later that day, but iirc didn't come up with much.

Speaking of 90s names, I do recall some buzz around Hammerbox, but couldn't keep it straight from the buzz around Clawhammer, Hammerhead, Jawbox, or Jawbreaker so never checked out any of them.

― Maresn3st, Thursday, 22 April 2021 20:07 (five years ago)
I know I've posted this elsewhere, but living in Seattle in the early 90s was funny; billions of phone-pole posters for Candlebox, Hammerbox, Crackerbash, Stickerbush... I could never keep 'em straight.
