And speaking of Ugly Things, Don Craine of the Sect had been a regular columnist for years for them -- but sadly, the latest issue arrived with the news that he passed back in February. A post noting the passing from then:

Avoid the 2cd set Swct Appeal because sound us dreadful.Repertoire remastered the lps individually. Rock Sect's In is grungey rocky garagey version of r'n'b that I love. First lp I heard by them though maybe I heard the Sect Sing Sick Songs e.p. earlier. Definitely roughly the same time in my early teens. I think that's a Halloween set with a death focus. The s/t lp is pretty good straighter r'n'b with a cover that was recycled or at least photo session outtake used for the Rock Sect's In with one departed member Stalinised. There's also a country lp which is very early for a UK beat band. Like 65 or 66. I heard that Van Morrison saw them when he was in London pre-Them and they inspired him to go and form the band. They used to play Eel Pye Island a lot and I think they appear in a 00ies documentary on the venue there playing contemporarily. The guitarist wrote a memoir released through Ugly Things which was pretty interesting. He disdains the singer's wearing of a deerhunter hat which later became a trademark for them and gave Billy Childish a name for his band. Thee Headcoats.
Sorry Don Craine's passed on.
