what is the point of these polls now? im so tired of lists. theyre redundant. unless theyre lists of songs i dont know, is there any point to them other than to boost back catalogue sales or to let people know that they already have all the best tunes theyll ever need.

I don't suppose "Flow My Tears" by John Dowland got very many votes...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 12 September 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I've even heard 'A Day In The Life' or if I have I don't remember how it goes. This is my John Wayne.

I'm surprised 'Unfinished Sympathy' is STILL the token 'urban/soul' choice for these wallies.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 12 September 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

did young disciples make the chart anywhere?

okok, Monday, 12 September 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

i want to kill myself now.

N_RQ, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

'life on mars?' is a bit arbitrary. surely it's 'heroes'!?

N_RQ, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

Apparently, nothing.

xpost TIMING!

Now, "Life On Mars" as performed by Co:Ro - that would stand a strong chance of getting in my top ten...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

im guessing soul 2 soul and dizzee rascal (perhaps) were the remaining black picks

"I'm surprised 'Unfinished Sympathy' is STILL the token 'urban/soul' choice for these wallies."

theres a white guy in the group, they're O-K

Q MAGAZINE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE!

Kanye Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

way to go kanye!

okok, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Q care about kanye though! they gave his album 4 stars and called it a masterpiece! all the rock press love the kanye!

okok, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

this list could have been done in 1997. i think 'day in the life' is a clear 'lose' for the beatles: no-one really likes it, it's there cos it's 'important'. it's a sign no-one at q has a favourite beatles song, maybe.

N_RQ, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

It's not even on my favourite Beatles album (The Best Of The Beatles).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

it should be once in my life, not a day in the life. the former is much better than the latter.

okoko, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

I like "Day In The Life," have done for the last 35-odd years. But I would have gone for "Revolution 9" or "Eight Days A Week."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

i would have gone with 'tomorrow never knows' because it sounds passably like the chemical brothers.

N_RQ, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

You cheeky young scamp!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

I'd put 'Wonderwall' at no.3 too. In the list of most overrated songs ever behind 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Imagine'. No, wait a minute, its got to be no.4. 'Angels' is no.1.

avery keen-gardner (avery keen-gardner), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

Were it down to me, the entire first Stone Roses album would be at number one in such a list...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

no songs from the 80s or 00s!!!!!

N_RQ, Monday, 12 September 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

it's hard to even raise an eyebrow at this shit any more but one does occasionally wonder what passes through the minds of the people who make the lists, whether they're at all self-aware of how pitiable they are.

'a day in the life' is one of only two beatles songs i can stand though.
