SLSK rooms - a complete waste of time?

I asked if anyone was sharing the Yahowha "God and Hair" box on the Psych / Acid Rock room. Here are a few of the responses:

"Try the jewcore room"
"Anyone Got NE cool shit?"
"Like Psychedelic or Trippy picttures???"
"try google"

Has anyone ever had a positive experience that WASN'T in the ILM room?

talking in the rooms may or may not be a waste of time, but as far as i know general search is still broken & searching within the jewcore room may very well lead to the best jewcore results you are liable to find

only once in a billion a tries. The only thing I use the rooms for is to search the users in that room. Supposedly you get better search results that way. But the responses you got sound familiar.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother asking people in a room, just put your mouse pointer in the chat window and right click.

Although the chat rooms can be fun sometimes if you're just really bored and feel like lurking to watch people say funny/stupid things.

I was once in the shoegaze room and Neil Halstead from Slowdive/Mojave 3/Neil Halstead was in there talking. I never did get to say what I wanted to say to him because he was having computer/connection problems. I didn’t believe it at first so I waited until I was sure and than it was too late. That was my highlight for rooms in slsk but every once in a while we have a meet up and it's fun.

Wow.

uh... i hang out in the psych/acid rock room and generally people are helpful. the worst you see is people asking repeatedly for trance techno songs over and over.

the black metal room, on the other hand...

The indie room is incredibly entertaining. As asinine as banter can possibly get.

The Avantgarde room is entertaining inasmuch as someone always drops by to ask "what is avantgarde?", and invariably some little weasel will start pontificating about what avantgarde is. Lovely.

Try the test client, the search function is massively improved:

When will a easy to install mac version come out?

Jacobs (LolVStein), Saturday, 24 September 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

I was once in the shoegaze room and Neil Halstead from Slowdive/Mojave 3/Neil Halstead was in there talking.

That is awesome. I met Gary Glitter in a Radio Disney chatroom when I was eleven but your story is much cooler.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Saturday, 24 September 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

Jacobs, you don't like the soulseex version? Granted it's not as good as the PC one, but still pretty good.

I'm on nicotine and the search results are nonexistent. I'm also on OS 10.2.8 so I can't run soulseex. I don't think it's going to get better. Bummer.

wmlynch (wlynch), Saturday, 24 September 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah and I meant to say that when I try to do a room search in Nicotine it crashes the program and freezes my computer. Dammit!

wmlynch (wlynch), Saturday, 24 September 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Haha, the original responses in the slsk room are LOL.

my god the situation in the punk/hardcore/grind room is even worse than just being filled with stupid people, it's full of stupid people who think they're smart!

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 16:19 (twenty years ago)

Is the number of slsk users dropping or something? All my favorite rooms are shrinking and its harder and harder to find what I am looking for these days.
