Boston's V.

I was reading a while on someone's blog that Thalia Zedek's "New York 1926" off Been Here and Gone was actually a cover of a song by a band called V. (I think the period is part of the name like with Adult.). After a lot of searching I found a Thalia tribute website which had the V. version for free to download, and it absolutely bowled me over. From what I understand Susan Anway--she of the high voice from the old Magnetic Fields records--was the singer, and that they existed sometime during the 1980s. Beyond that, I've got absolutely nothing. Does anybody know anything about them/where or how I can get their music?

V;

V;
Susan Anway-vocals, percussion
George Petcoff (aka Dakota) guitar, vocals
Joe Cuneo-fretless bass
Matt Burns-drums
G Gogel-guitar

V; (the semi-colon was added so people would not think the band was "five") existed for about 18 months from January of 1980 until Oct of 1982. They released one DYI single with two short fast songs on the A-side and a ska influenced number on the B-side. They had two arty songs on the Propeller compilation tape and also were featured on a later Propeller compilation EP. Their 15 seconds of fame came from their Propeller 4-track EP which featured "1926" recently revived by Thalia Zedek. Susan Anway, the lead singer, went on to work with Magnetic Fields on their first releases. Steadfast drummer Matt Burns has played with numerous bands and currently appears with Kenne Highland's Vatican Sex Kittens.

According to this page, a V; CD compilation is coming out next year, along with a DVD.

owen: can you link to that Thalia tribute site, with the V; download? Thanks!

I don't know if that's going to make a hyper-link or not but if not you can always do the ol' copy-paste shuffle.

And wow! with regards to the CD/DVD. I guess that's pretty much the most I could have hoped for.

Thanks owen! Sounds great! It's not at all like I'd imagined them to be (I've always heard them described as being a punk band.)

Holy shit, this is a strange coincidence. Owen you've got strange powers.
I was just, at this moment, looking for stuff on V; and about to ask in the YSI thread if anyone has V;'s original rendition of "1926."
The link x-post does not seem to be working for me.
"1926" - V; if anyone has it, would be greatly appreciated.

And like Earnest said, what I know is that they may re-release some stuff in early 2006.

I thought for a second that this was about Boston's fifth album.

seven months pass...
I see this dialogue is a few monts old, but if Owen is still looking for music by V; I can send you a CD of all our studio stuff plus one (very noisy) live set.
One caveat, '1926' was the only pretty song we played everything else is pretty abrasive.
