Japan, China, etc.

Can't seem to find anything solid on music from this region on AMG. Can anyone recommend a good place to start?

I spose I'm looking for something like the Oum Kalthoum of Japan.

i will make anyone mixtapes of classical & folk music from iran, indonesia, turkey/persia, india, pakistan, libya etc. i barely have any stuff from japan and china, sadly.

All the Nonesuch Explorer Series albums I have are seriously great, and there's a bunch of them. I think most are on CD now as well. They have lots of Japan/China/gamelan/etc.

"The Silk Road" comp that came out a few years ago has some really great kinda throat singing mystical troubador stuff on disc 2.
