So yeah, long before MTV Raps and Rap City, we relied on these two shows for our Hip-Hop and other urban musics.
Video Soul hosted by the green eyed Donnie Simpson. I remember catching this circa 1984 when they had on the Disco 3, and the group announced live on air that they were going to change their name to the Fat Boys. This was the first time I ever saw anyone beat box.
Video Vibrations played more obscure stuff with wider parameters. I remember learning about 808 State on this show. Fucking BET. 808 State.
Anyway, older black music fans, please chime in.

Here in Canada we had Soul In The City on MuchMusic, which played a serious cross-section of black acts. First place I heard/saw Public Enemy, Loose Ends, Cameo, Neneh Cherry, The Wee Papa Girls, Guy, Yazz & The Plastic Population, Inner City, Ten City, etc.
