"You can bet on it, it's on bet, Black Entertainment TV"

So yeah, long before MTV Raps and Rap City, we relied on these two shows for our Hip-Hop and other urban musics.

Video Soul hosted by the green eyed Donnie Simpson. I remember catching this circa 1984 when they had on the Disco 3, and the group announced live on air that they were going to change their name to the Fat Boys. This was the first time I ever saw anyone beat box.

Video Vibrations played more obscure stuff with wider parameters. I remember learning about 808 State on this show. Fucking BET. 808 State.

Anyway, older black music fans, please chime in.

Anyway, younger white black music fans, please jive away.

I only have vague recollections of these programs.
Anyone got it on VHS?

I remember Video Soul, I know I saw VV but don't remember anything about it. VS had r&b and quiet storm, started playing new jack and a little rap later in the run iirc. By that time I just caught a minute at a time waiting for Rap City. WHERE IS RACHEL'S FOINE ASS, what show was she on again? Not much else to say about them, video shows and all.

ditto on the 808 state memories. the only place i saw the (then-mindblowing, to me) video for "Pacific" was on Video Vibrations. someone was doing something right!

Here in Canada we had Soul In The City on MuchMusic, which played a serious cross-section of black acts. First place I heard/saw Public Enemy, Loose Ends, Cameo, Neneh Cherry, The Wee Papa Girls, Guy, Yazz & The Plastic Population, Inner City, Ten City, etc.

seven months pass...
Video Vibrations was a good video show, which showed everything across the music board. I don't understand why these shows aren't placed on an old school video channel because I know many will watch.
