Damian Lazarus - "Suck my deck" - how fucking awesome is this?

My favourite mix cd so far this year I reckon.

Varied, dramatic, creepy.

Great way to start with the atmospheric Break 3000 and Holden tracks and then that Freaks "Tweekness" tune in the middle is hilarious and infectious at the same time.

He manages to create a really consistent feel but also consistent interest and variety. The only weak bit is a slightly dull stretch around the Phonique mix of I:Cube but even that is a nice bridge between the slightly self-conscious weirdness of the earlier section and the dancier middle.

Anyway, yeah, anybody else hear this? When did it come out?

Havent actually heard the cd but I like the tunes on the double 12. Superpitcher mix of M83 is great.

This came out in early June. He toured around that time, and the CD is a little disappointing compared to his live set, which was MASSIVE. Definitely check him out if he spins in your town....

Two second review: starts out great, sags in the middle and towards the end before recovering. The Freaks and Stranglers tracks are certainly inspired though. At this point I'd say electrohouse needs more of injection of "fun" than another round of minimal acid tech-ness.

I still need to pick this up. I adore his Rebel Futurism #2 mix - really lively, nicely balanced pop/minimalism feel.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 29 September 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

We're thinking of getting him.

I'm not mad on this mix though, and I never got completely into Rebel Futurism 2 either. I should probably listen again, I think I have a sort of hex or unjustified suspicion on this matter, as expounded on the electrohouse rethink thread.

Was very bored by rebel futurism 1, so never investigated further.

I really rate that I:Cube remix of Phonique. So it has kind of deepish synths but it builds and drops in a really good subtle way. It has loads of good percussion on it too. That Freaks tune on the other hand is just god awful...as well as the Piere Bucci track. Trentmoller mixing into Tolfrey's The Horn is definatly the highlight for me.

"The Horn" is pretty crazy.
