think of any artist -- ever -- who's been around long enough to spend some time working both ways, and i think you'll find they did better work when they were working faster.

you could argue, of course, that this is because they naturally worked faster when they were younger and had more energy and more songs inside 'em or whatever -- in other words hat they could work faster only because they were on a songwriting roll, as opposed to the fast work itself being responsible for the great material.

but i think the cause and effect actually works in the opposite direction. artists in most media tend to do better work when they're steadily working, because writing and recording and playing make you better. the very act of doing it contributes to the quality of what you do. most of the time anyway.
