I remember I had "My Life Soundtrack" and I had the "Old Classics" (old punk songs) and "New Classics" (newer indie songs) as a 2-CDR Set.

My series of tapes for myself were/are titled "Essentials, Vol. XX."

My mix tapes for others got/get silly names like "Ask Joe Mama: Gazoo's Soul Patrol Psych-Out Bubblegum Happy Dance Party" and "Sometimes It's Hard to Think of Another Song: Gazoo's Covers Mix." The latest one was called "Songs About the U.S., Canada, and Worcester."

The two that come to mind are...

Jammin' in the `Stang, Whap-a-Dang Whap-a-Dang!
(thus dubbed for my friend Rob's crappy "vintage" Mustang)

and...

The Third Reich Knee Injury Dance Party
The anecdote that goes along with this one is rather lengthy. Suffice to say it involves housesitting, an angry neighbor, a knee injury and someone carving a swastika into someone else's front door.

Oh, and I made a hardcore mix for a friend of mine who was obsessed with "Star Wars" called...The Thrash Compactor.

This thread ended too soon.

I've been known to use "The Hour of Power" for mixes that hover around the 60 min mark. The title is misleading, though, because most of these mixes are downtempo/acoustic/melancholy stuff.

When I was a sophomore in high school, I made a widely-distributed (among my friends), definitive two disc summation of the history of hip-hop (from the, like, six albums I owned) called "Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2," which was eventually supplemented by another disc called "Supplement" haha. tracklist forthcoming..

Genesis of the Daleks
My So Called Life
wow I've just realized that my mixtape titles are creatively bankrupt.

mine are mostly psych/garage stuff i used to make for my radio show (so i didn't have to take 100 lbs of records/cds every week). and half of them are just mangled song titles:

amphetamine gaze
black butter
blessed are the psych
death calls collect
dr. tarr's torture cubicle
goodbye earth
inside down upside out
just a fiend
kadath trip
monkey demon
night digging
the rhyming orange
saurekopf sauerkopf
scenic void
she's eating my mind
starry ride
technicolour yawn
(working on a) tsching-tscheng*
unnatural high
wantin' ain't gettin'
yellow pills

* this is actually the title of a german band's cover of "working on a chain gang."

I'm making a dubstep comilation for my friend. I called it "Dubstep"

:(

Though the subtitle "a high-end selection of low-end bizness" redeems it.

Ce soir je dîne sur la soupe de tortue (EDB), Friday, 9 July 2010 04:29 (fifteen years ago)

i just make covers for mine. no titles for the most part?

The Portrait of a Lady of BJs (the table is the table), Friday, 9 July 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

my last one i called 'the one' as in james brown's 'the one'. don't know why i thought anyone would get that w/o explanation so probably came off incredibly pompous

(first time for everything, etc.)

tremendoid, Friday, 9 July 2010 06:10 (fifteen years ago)

Dang, I've forgotten almost all of my old ones except for two:
Whorehouse: Gongs and Morphine
Flying Jelly Attack! (A power-pop collection that did not include that song.)

I'm sure that the rest of them were quite clever indeed.

Dodo Lurker (Slim and Slam), Friday, 9 July 2010 11:07 (fifteen years ago)

My Emmanuel Top compilation for in the car is called pH=0 because that's the most acid you can be. :-)
