The strong hook in "Hoppipppolollopppoliilppolili" by Sigur Ros REALLY reminds me of something but I can't place it. I thought it was "The Universal" by Blur but I'm pretty sure it isn't. It sounds

I see this is a top 40 hit.

What did JK/Joel make of it?

GOD FUCKING ALMIOGHTY I MEAN THE STRING HOOK, NOT THE FUCKING STRONG HOOK. Could a mod please correct the thread title?

X-post - I didn't hear, Mark, as I cannot fucking stand either of those stupid fucking pillocks, and so refuse to listen to the chart show anymore.

ARGH FUCK, "NEARS" = "EARS".

Shoot me, please.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 5 December 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

This is sort of what you get for making a thread with a title like that.

TEENAGE FANLCUB's song THE WORLD WILL BE OK is directly influenced by (and almost sounds like a rip off of) _____???

Anyone know?

you win the award for the thread with the longest title and the shortest body

This is not the thread I hoped for.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

Is this the thing they played on the Jools Holland Show? Jesus, what a load of shite.

i was listening to "takk" again this morning, just in case there was some point to it that i missed. what did the production process on that album involve: someone coming in with a massive pair of shears and removing any trace of balls from the music? a more emasculated, weedy, compressed, feeble sound i've never heard. talk about scared to rock. there are some astounding songs in there, but they're all being strangled.

sigur ros were a great band, and are responsible for one of the greatest live performances i've seen. "takk", however, is cakk.

I'd never heard them or seen them before I saw them on Jools Holland, where they looked and sounded like an run-of-the-mill indie band that had had a lot of money spent on them

Is this your way of saying that the album could use a bit more bass?

The more I think about what Nick wrote, the more convinced I become that it IS "The Universal".

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

it's not just the bottom end. it's the sides. and the top. glosoli (or whatever it's called) should SCREAM at the end; instead it sounds like it's neatly preserved behind glass.

it sounds, basically, like sigur ros decided to do a coffee-table album for all the people who got into them because tom cruise likes 'em.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

Fucking hell, is that the actual song title???

Dan (Hoppipppolollopppoliilppolili!) Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

no, that's just the first half.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

I bet that's a name.
