He sounds quite cheerful that he's having his heart broken, but then again if he was downbeat this song wouldn't make me swing like the penis in that ever-present internet anal sex gif.

Do you like this song?

I was right along with you until one point in that first sentence.

I love this song. I think by the time he sings the song he's gotten over her, and just doing all the other guys a public service by warning them about her. And I don't think the song featured the Belmonts...and I don't know why I know that.

I think a "broken heart" is just a 50s euphemism for "the clap."

I think you're right.

My step-mother got for me for Christmas one of those mini-jukeboxes that you see advertised in the back of Parade magazine. It came with these little, tiny cassettes that were no more than an inch long and half an inch wide.

Anyway, one of those was "Runaround Sue" and it sounded great coming out of that flimsy sunnuvabitch.

great song.
i saw an interview with dion once where he mentioned that a lot of his vocal style came from one certain trumpet player. can't remember the name of the trumpeter though.....

Why?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

Actually, you know what? This song is OK. "The Wanderer" is the one that is puketastic.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

Why?

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Oh stop.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

Actually no, I identify with The Wanderer. In fact, I am The Wanderer. With babes left and right. And when they ask me which one I love the best, I tear open my shirt and say, "Rosie on my chest."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

it's pretty good, but I always get it mixed up with Del Shannon's "Runaway," which is much better.

Was that the tune that inspired "Sitting-Still Sam" ,
by Siousxie (SP ???) and the Banshees ?

The reason he's not sad is that even though Sue goes out with other guys the Belmonts have got his back and they're going Hey! Hey! Mmm-ba-day-ba-day-bah-Hey! Hey!

Who could cry?

one month passes...
Two things. One, does he say "I pay that hour" at about 1:47 into the song? If so, then Sue's absolved 'cause she has bills to pay.

Two, the vocal phrasing or cadence or whatever during the first verse after that intro is wonderfully rhythmic. I hesitate to say that the first thing I thought of was that it's like hip-hop vocalizing. He's not singing so much as he's spitting out the words. But I don't know much about hip-hop.
