The wife's out. I have two new DVD's. The live Zep one and the newly released (joy!) Bauhaus one that contains both Archive and Shadow of Light. Debating which to watch. Go at it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

The Zep one and see if you spot me at Knebworth - I'm the bloke with the dodgy haircut and the sleeping bag.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

Watch the Led Zep and send the Bauhaus to me!

LeRooLeRoo (Seb), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

I still listen to Bauhaus and never listen to LZ, but the LZ DVD will probably be better to watch....

jsoulja (jsoulja), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

teh bauhaus one is prolly stuff you've seen before, but it's mad good. i don't have the zep one, wish i did. but way to go on buying the bauhaus and keepin' us in business, bro.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

Is that Peter Murphy? He's ripped! I would watch the Bauhaus one because Robert Plant just annoys the christ out of me.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

I just saw Bauhaus on the reuinion tour and they rocked pretty hard.

Zep, though, I'd watch that...I've been wanting to see that forever.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

The Zep one is pretty incredible. Haven't seen the Bauhaus DVD.

darin (darin), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

I want the Bauhaus one!!!

I missed seeing Bauhaus this year because they performed on THANKSGIVING. Damn Brits, learn one American holiday.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

That's (or was) Daniel Ash. (x-post)

LeRooLeRoo (Seb), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm seeing Bauhaus again in two days time. Ergo, them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

Really?? I know he's holding the guitar and everything but that dude looks like he actually has lips.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:57 (twenty years ago)

Haven't seen Shadow of Light in many years, but I think I remember it as not as great as I expected... Haven't seen any of the others .. I'd watch the Zeppelin one though. A little BauhausedOut lately.

D.I.Y. U.N.K.L.E. (dave225.3), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

No, that's Daniel all right.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

Most improbable comeback thread I've seen. Killing Joke vs Bauhaus TS left you feeling sour ? What's this one going to prove ? Two BW pics of shirtless guitar-carrying rockers do not a debatable connection make.

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

Daniel Ash >>> Jimmy Page

Try reading the actual question, jerk.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, read the question, the wife is gone, now's the time to get down to some real business!

TRG (TRG), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah something about your wife, whatever. I blame stuff on the house cat (not Felix).

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Ass captain.

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 8 December 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

What's this about blame? I was a question about DVDs. Cock nazi.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

The Zeppelin DVDs are monumental, for real, and so many light-years beyond Song Remains the Same. It's mind-boggling that they were sitting on that footage for so long.

Don't know anything about the Bauhaus and will probably stay that way. They do have some enjoyable records though.

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 8 December 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

(And I'll just assume that Curtis was comparing JP and DA on abs alone.)

Sundar (sundar), Thursday, 8 December 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I dream that the Zeppelin DVD is only a dream, and then I wake up to realize it is in fact real. Then I take my pants off and watch "Achilles Last Stand" at Knebworth.

Dr. Gene Scott (shinybeast), Thursday, 8 December 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

I both love and hate that Zep DVD, and it embodies everything I love and hate about the band. The grooves are 10x more awesome, but the pomp also gets 10x more pompous, and after a while you've heard enough Jimmy Page licks in one solo to know you don't need to hear ALL OF THEM.

Abbadabba Berman (Hurting), Thursday, 8 December 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

This Led Zep DVD is the one with the errrr, sandscape on the cover, right? From 2003? 'Cause it sounds fantastic~

Yoshinorimike (Yoshinorimike), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

The Led Zep DVD is all about John Paul Jones and his fucking insane crocheted glitter puffpaint applique purple wizard fantasy clothes. That guy has got STYLE, baby!

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Yup, s'all about jonesy. Great pageboy.

The zep is blistering in parts. if only there was a special dvd feature that eliminated plant!

The Velvet Overlord (The Velvet Overlord), Thursday, 8 December 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

After all this hubub, I ended up watching the Bauhaus one which -- while cool -- was a tiny bit of a letdown. The videos, by and large, are good -- if a bit dated looking. The live footage (recorded at a venue called The Old Vic in London) is a bit patchy, robbing the band of a bit of their richly cultivated mystique (Peter Murphy's morbid Peter Pan outfits are especially unfortunate). Ended up waking up the baby during "In the Flat Field," so I had to eject.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Don't eject the baby!

Dan (BOING) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Oh, where is Kaliflwr when we need her?

Peter Murphy's morbid Peter Pan outfits are especially unfortunate

I think this is maybe the greatest sentence ever written.

Dan (www.pixyland.org/peterpan/) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was going to say -- I may never look at Mr. Murphy quite the same way again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

The Zep one is excellent if only to see Germaine Greer chatting with John Bonham and him coming off quite the gentleman. Also hilarious interview with Robert Plant and Bob Harris - Plant is all hair and fey brummieness and Harris looks like he wants to blow him right there right now. It's a classic. Oh yeah and they play some music too.
Lovely noise on the intro pages as well.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 8 December 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it was fucking magnificent, I have to say.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Right here, Kate! Actually, I had just commented earlier today, on another board, that I was annoyed that Shadow of Light and Archive had yet to make it to DVD. Lo and behold...

Happy day! Happy day indeed! I'm off to the store!

kaliflwr (kaliflwr), Thursday, 8 December 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

What a restrictive choice ! I have to...

a) Choose a repetitive drone goth band of diabolically
relentless color

Or...

b) Choose the ultimate Blues-based hard rock
DINOSAUR of over-played proportions...

HELP !
