Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em Reconsidered

Last night, in my favourite Punjabi restaurant, I was bowled over by the "house" music. It took me a while to place it, definitely early 90s West Coast hip hop, with that one-step-removed from (Rev) Run style of shout-rapping. Sir Mix-A-Lot? Ice T? No! It was Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em and it was brilliant! Though "Have You Seen Her" still sounded lousy.
But the energy, the hooks, everything was so thrilling! Hammer has become the butt of many jokes, but PHDHE just might be the greatest pop hip hop album EVER. Better than College Dropout? YOU BET!

He was a beatnik. I was a martian. (Huk-L), Saturday, 4 February 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

"Pray" is underrated. The rest bored me to tears.

This is RONG in like 10000 ways, but, yeah, about 1/2 of this album is awesome.
