p2p and torrent at college

Does anyone have experience working around college bandwidth limitations on things like bit torrent and slsk. The college i'm at has a nice internet connection, they just seem to shave the speed on ports needed for slsk and bt.
any help???

there aren't many ways around this problem, barring investing in your own wireless hub or something to that degree. however, late night/early morning hours seem to open things up a bit at most schools. mmhmm.

i go to oberlin college and get bad download speeds during the day and good speeds at night.

in response to the original question, you can choose which ports to use in slsk and bittorrent with a little know-how. there are also bittorrent clients that encrypt all of their packets to escape filtering. this is a weak solution because your administration is probably going to notice the massive amounts of unparseable data moving between you and diverse range of ip addresses simultaneously. if they are conscientious enough to filter packets they can also write a script to filter random data. more from bram cohen:
