Dear Brits: Some Help, Please

Hate to do this. But! My little Spielerfrau is heading to the UK for a quick tour in early June; we booked, among other places, the Spitz in London, which has just fallen through; we need a new London date (tickets are bought, etc), and time is running out (those guys sure do book far in advance). I'll take any advise, pointers and mockery at the email above.

Feel free to tell me which clubs NOT to consider, by the way; I know how hard it is to book a tour without knowing the scene's context - this is how all those European bands come to NYC and end up playing the Bitter End and CB's Gallery.

You could try:
The Windmill, in Brixton, a pub that specializes in live music of all sorts.
The Borderline, in soho, a place that looks like a country-western lodge, but actually has a pretty wide booking policy; I saw the Wrens there last fall.
Union Chapel, in Islington. It's, well, a chapel, that also puts on (very often indie) gigs. Great space. They're reopening for gigs in May.
Cargo, in Shoreditch, a cool bar and space, with live music--usually dance-oriented, but with some varied exceptions.

Hope this helps!

The best place in London to play, without a doubt, is The Luminaire. No, really, they've just won an award for it. Great venue, run by lovely people.

(Ditto the Windmill, which is my local.)

Dammit, that's http://www.theluminaire.co.uk

Thanks gooblar, thanks Kate. Shows how hard it is to research a scene without living in it: I haven't heard of a single club you mention except Cargo!
