cutty (mcutt), Friday, 17 March 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

'under the coke sign' = worst boards of canada song title ever?

geeta (geeta), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:03 (twenty years ago)

hahaha probably

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Hopefully it won't be as gash as the Campfire headphase.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:17 (twenty years ago)

:-o

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:27 (twenty years ago)

damn, they're releasing a video for "dayvan cowboy" with this too!

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Trans Canada Highway is the 200th EP single by Warp and will be released on 06.06.06.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:41 (twenty years ago)

oh man i just heard a rad rumor about the video... cunn1ngh@m!

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

presumably won't be big budget though as big hit not expected (wanted?), so would probably just be be low-budget/empthasis-on-gruesome Cunningham :/

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:51 (twenty years ago)

well warp has been doing quite well lately, this is an event release (200), boc has never done a video and they're basically warp's flagship artist, so i don't think it's completely insane to think there might be a bit of money behind it. i've emailed some people + will hopefully know more soon.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 17 March 2006 17:59 (twenty years ago)

well warp has been doing quite well lately

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:01 (twenty years ago)

just found this...legit?

wolves (wolves), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:02 (twenty years ago)

(not saying that it is anything too mind blowing)

wolves (wolves), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

never got round to making the video idea i had for 'Orange Romeda' :(

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:04 (twenty years ago)

So that's why people are hyperventilating over at O**k.

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Friday, 17 March 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
this is leaked
it seems fine, very good, unexceptional, whatever
heard from the telegraph pole really goood

nikki weber (nikudnik), Sunday, 7 May 2006 17:02 (twenty years ago)

video is here: http://www.warprecords.com/dayvancowboy/

on some days i think the BOC EPs are better than the full-lengths. (mostly on the basis of "in a beautiful place out in the country")

breakfast pants (disco stu), Sunday, 7 May 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

if leak is real: short and rather boring, yes? i was hoping the '06/06/06' date would inject some of that ol' boc uneasiness into things..

jermaine (jnoble), Sunday, 7 May 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

no question leak is real. two new tracks, two minutelong sketches & a pointless remix. hmmm. i too miss the uneasiness.

zappi (joni), Sunday, 7 May 2006 18:35 (twenty years ago)

yawn

Cee Bee (Cee Bee), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:09 (twenty years ago)

what's happened to these guys over the passed few years?

Cee Bee (Cee Bee), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)

I like the cover, at least

Cee Bee (Cee Bee), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:11 (twenty years ago)

that video is really bizarre. not sure what to think of it. on the one hand it's good because despite seeming kind of hippie-ish like they seem to, it's also completely unexpected. certianly the first time that warp has put out a surf video (no snarky aphex 'on' corrections, please).

is the skydiving footage totally real? is this video totally lame or awesome?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm going with the latter. There was one particular bit during the surfing when I just cringed, I had a really basic gut response to it which was "oh my God this is truly the definition of pedestrian".

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

that's exactly what i like about it! although i would use the word totemic before uhhh pedestrian.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:30 (twenty years ago)

The skydiving footage is real- it's from Joseph Kittinger's Excelsior III jump in 1960.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Dayvan Cowboy sounds like background music for a cisco systems commercial, and I mean this in the worst possible way

Cee Bee (Cee Bee), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:40 (twenty years ago)

"Making your networking dreams a reality.... Cisco Systems"

Cee Bee (Cee Bee), Sunday, 7 May 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

it's all true :(

nikki weber (nikudnik), Sunday, 7 May 2006 23:06 (twenty years ago)

When I first heard about this, I was excited about hearing 5 new BoC songs (Dayvan Cowboy from the album, + 5 new ones), but like zappi said above, there are really only two new actual "songs". Unfortunately they just sound like songs not good enough to make the full-length. The Clouddead remix is particularly disappointing. At least the bright side is that this EP makes "Dayvan Cowboy" seem like a much better song than I initially thought.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Monday, 8 May 2006 04:34 (twenty years ago)

OOOOOOH SPOOKY promo! Not the "Dayvan Cowboy" video, this is a montage of nature footage, kaleidoscope shapes, scrambled porn, etc. set to (IIRC) "A is to B as B is to C" from Geogaddi.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 11 May 2006 18:27 (twenty years ago)

"Due to unanticipated satanic activity, the release date of Trans Canada Highway, the new EP from Boards of Canada, has been brought forward to 29th May 2006 (a day later in the US)."

scnnr drkly (scnnr drkly), Thursday, 11 May 2006 19:38 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
I want my £6.99 back please. What a load of old bollocks. That Pitchfork interview a few months back when Campfire Headphase came out was career suicide, surely?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Is it true that it's a concept EP about travelling the Trans-Canada from one end of the country to the other?

Sundar (sundar), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

can't have been a very long (or good) drive then

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:47 (twenty years ago)

(Have they ever actually made the trip?)

Sundar (sundar), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)
