April 11th to be exact. It's called Stepping Out of Line Anthology but that's the only info I have. I can't even find out what label's it's on.

Anyone know anything about this?

Jeff K (jeff k), Friday, 17 March 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Sweet Jeezus, it's long overdue isn't it? Can't wait to hear.

Jeff K (jeff k), Friday, 17 March 2006 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Monogamy, which I think was only on the BBC sessions disc, is one of the most kick-ass songs ever.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 17 March 2006 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Agreed. This looks like an almost complete overview.

sleeve (sleeve), Friday, 17 March 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

How can I preorder it and listen to it today?!

Er, they didn't really make two discs worth of good music, did they? Seems to me they could've just combined the best parts of *Playing With a Different Sex* or whatever it was called with "Diet"/"It's Obvious" (I still have my 45, ha!) (actually, were those already on the album? I forget) (best song on the album was "Come Again," right?) and a few other tracks. Who could possibly need 44 Au Pairs songs? That's silly. (That said, I'll probably keep the thing if somebody sends me a copy and say good thngs about it, regardless.)

xhuxk, Saturday, 18 March 2006 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Sense and Sensuality is a great album, I actually prefer it to Playing With Diff Sex. It was originally mastered at the wrong speed, but Castle released a corrected one in 2002. I went through a period where I had to hear "Sex Without Stress" once a day like vitamins...

An anthology for a band with, what, two albums? does seem a bit uneccessary, though.

Edward III (edward iii), Saturday, 18 March 2006 19:33 (twenty years ago)

The Homosexuals had a box set and they didn't release a single album. KRS managed to get two discs worth of music for their Lilliput and Essential Logic packages.

I happen to need 44 Au Pair songs. Thank you very much.

Jeff K (jeff k), Saturday, 18 March 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Kleenex/Liiliput and Essential Logic were *better* than Au Pairs! (Honest!)

xhuxk, Saturday, 18 March 2006 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Liliput yes. But I'd take the Au Pairs over Essential Logic.

Jeff K (jeff k), Saturday, 18 March 2006 20:45 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha I am a *Beat Rhythm News* fan from way back. It is one of my favorite albums of all of post-punkitude. So: Wanna fight? (Just kidding.)

xhuxk, Saturday, 18 March 2006 20:56 (twenty years ago)

I didn't say I didn't like Essential Logic. I just prefer the Au Pairs.

(Not that I'm scared of you or anything)

Jeff K (jeff k), Saturday, 18 March 2006 21:05 (twenty years ago)

To me, the package is kind of a disappointment. You do get all of the remixed "Sense & Sensuality" CD and the original "Playing With A Different Sex" album (with the caveat that a few tracks on "Playing" are new mixes.) But it skips several songs from the "Live In Berlin" and the majority of the "BBC Sessions" CD, plus several cool tracks from the never-completed third album that were appended to the RPM reissue of "Sense & Sensuality" CD (which the original "unremastered" version that you don't get here either.)

In other words, if you're a completist, you need to buy the original RPM issues of "Sense" and "Playing" and the live CD *and" the BBC sessions CD. You don't get anything "new" aside from two remixes, which probably aren't crucial.

From the Castle web site: 'Today, they’re acknowledged by the likes of Frank Ferdinand and the Killers as one of the most influential bands in British rock history. '

i like essential logic but that 2-CD KRS thing IS kinda hard to sit all the way through. i wish they'd kept all of the original EPs or whatever instead of just picking and choosing, and maybe cut down on some of the later stuff. but hey, in a world where you can get a 4-CD sandie shaw boxset, there's no reason not to have a 2-CD au pairs compilation.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 20 March 2006 10:20 (twenty years ago)

back around 82 I took a date to see that Goddard movie w/Jane Fonda as a strike organizer and then to see Au Pairs at the Mudd Clubb.

pretty progressive, eh? nothing much "came" of it, though ;-)

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:29 (twenty years ago)

the essential logic tracklisting I think was pretty much dictated by Lora Logic herself.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:29 (twenty years ago)

"you need to buy the original RPM issues of "Sense" and "Playing" and the live CD *and" the BBC sessions CD"

I have them, but it took me a very long time to find them in any stores. Are they actually in print right now? The BBC Sessions CD is terrific and I'd say better than the two studio albums, on the whole.

James, Monday, 20 March 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure Sense and Sensuality is the only Au Pairs still in print.

Jeff K (jeff k), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:43 (twenty years ago)

I think Live in Berlin is still in print.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 20 March 2006 20:42 (twenty years ago)

So did anyone pick this up yet?

D. Bachyrycz, Monday, 15 May 2006 16:16 (twenty years ago)

spastic heritage (spastic heritage), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:25 (twenty years ago)

I have it on order from CD Universe and they say it's not due until early next month.

Jeff K (jeff k), Monday, 15 May 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

I got it on Friday from Amazon.uk. I only have listened to it once through though. I don't have much to say yet - it is what it is.

dave's good arm (facsimile) (dave225.3), Monday, 15 May 2006 18:30 (twenty years ago)

six years pass...

I'm confused by the commentd above about "Sense & Sensuality" - was the RPM CD the wrong speed or is the 2002 Castle reissue wrong? What's the backstory?
