Suppose you end up in hell after all and there's the Ironic Punishment Department where you get subjected to the things you loved the most during your lifetime until you can't bare them anymore. You will get played the same song over and over again for 1000 listens, but you get to pick the song yourself. Which one would you choose?

For myself, it would probably be Digital Love or Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk. That, or Goodbye Lucille #1 by Prefab Sprout.

Herr Fahrstuhl's sweet whispers in my ear. Meow!

4'33- John Cage

Napalm Death - You Suffer

Should be done and dusted in 33 minutes and twenty seconds.

Ben Dot (1977), Saturday, 18 March 2006 06:45 (twenty years ago)

That would be a pretty inept Ironic Punishments Department if it let us pick our own songs. A truly cruel Satanic DJ would pick a song we once liked in junior high.

Depending on the song that would not be a problem.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 March 2006 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Rocker probably. Great track, but I can easily see it eroding your spirit after about twenty spins.

Down Down by Status Quo.

Voodoo Chile (slight return)

As Sartre once famously said, "Hell is 'Geht's Noch.'"

There's several songs that I KNOW I've listened to at least a thousand times. Coltrane's Naima comes to mind immediately. I listened to that on repeat for about a week straight once.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 19 March 2006 06:26 (twenty years ago)

I was all ready to pick a Fall song but went with "Reel Around the Fountain" by the Smiths as it is more sing-alongable.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Sunday, 19 March 2006 06:29 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if it was hell (damn close) but this already happened to me in 1993. The song? Smells Like Teen Spirit of course.

The one I feel I could withstand the longest though is the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter"

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Monday, 20 March 2006 18:39 (twenty years ago)

My Bloody Valentine "Sunny Sundae Smile"

or something by the Exploding Hearts.

or "Hawaiian Disco Without Bollocks" by the Boredoms, as it's 2 seconds long so the punishment would be over within the hour.

Raffles: Gentleman Thug (Raffles: The Gentleman Thug), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:00 (twenty years ago)

"Ooh Child", Five Stairsteps

hank s (hank s), Monday, 20 March 2006 21:19 (twenty years ago)

Can you imagine listening to Pink Floyd's (Richard Wright's?) "Sisyphus" while being forced to push a huge boulder uphill your ownself for all eternity?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 09:35 (twenty years ago)
