What else sounds like 'Ghetto Defendant' or 'Straight to Hell' ??

I know a lot of punkists who think Combat Rock was not the Clash's finest, but whatev. I just feel these 2 tracks, Ghetto Defendant & Straight to Hell, transcend any genre and are of the most beautiful fusiony music ever released. I've simply never heard anything quite like them. I tried to make "Pandora" and "LastFM" stations out of these tracks (where some algorythm recommends music to you based on your selections), but all they played was classic punk. So, I put it to you... what else approches these songs in mood, style, and beauty?

I'm with you on this!

I think there are mid-period Pogues tracks which have a similar vibe - "Summer In Siam" comes to mind.

Many tracks on Tymon Dogg records approach the cool fusion of those two Clash tracks, albeit with rougher edges.

I'm assuming you must know the Clash album "Sandinista!" which has tracks like "Broadway," "The Street Parade" and "If Music Could Talk."

"Combat Rock" could have been an amazing breakthrough if had the longer versions of some of the songs (like "Straight To Hell"), got rid of a few things like "Overpowered By Funk" and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" and included a couple of the never-released outtakes and some of the weirdly structured experiments that ended up as b-sides such as "Long Time Jerk" and "First Night Back In London." But I think commercial pressures ended up making the record a big compromise.

Some Joe Strummer solo tracks work similar terrain - "Yalla Yalla," for instance.

Which songs, how and why?

Brian Eno: No One Receiveing (From Before and After Science)
Talking Heads: Remain in Light (entire LP)
A Certain Ratio: Early compilation
They all have the heavy, treated percussion, speak-sing vocals and non-trad instrumentation

"No One's Little Girl" by The Raincoats fits perfectly.

This is a good question that I have no answer for, but man, I would love to hear those Tymon Dogg records. I've never even seen them.
