New Young Pony Club.

Just saying it makes me feel like I just listened to Bright Eyes or something, but I think this is one of the best bands to do a Talking Heads type thing.

The Buttless Chaps

Stinkmitt

Eyehategod

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Skinned Deep (this is a movie name, but it's still stupid)

Erock LAzron, Monday, 20 March 2006 07:22 (twenty years ago)

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah isn't that bad. At least it can't be interpreted as dirty, like:

Do Me Bad Things.

They've broken up (lack of commercial success K THX POMZ).

Not a band, but Papoose has to be the worst rap name ever.

New Young Pony Club are quality. Seeing them tonight in Hoxton too.

Some of their track names are on the borderline like "Jerk Me".

Except that it's an awesome name.

Animal Collective

Galchen. A local band, with a name so daft that I don't even know if I've spelled it right. If someone says it to you in a loud atmosphere, like at a gig ("are you going to see Galchen tomorrow?") it sounds a lot like "gauching" which is the local term for the teeth grinding and eyeball whirling that people on pills do, so much confusion arises.

where the hell are you from?

not really, Monday, 20 March 2006 16:41 (twenty years ago)

Galchen = a lovely name for people, and thus a fine name for a band.

Most of these bands are either not new or not good.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 20 March 2006 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Stinkmitt are not new (they've been around for at least 5 years), but they ARE awesome.

They Shoot Horses Don't They have a crap name for sure but are worth checking out.

everything, Tuesday, 21 March 2006 00:00 (twenty years ago)

Porn Sword Tobacco are a decent, semi-new ambient/minimal tech group. Worst name ever.

Myke. (Myke Weiskopf), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Tapes 'N Tapes is pretty stupid.

!!!

Heath Pardoe (badg), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 01:26 (twenty years ago)

haha, at the record store I was recomended Porn Sword Tobacco. The guy just pointed at first. Then he made sure to mention how bad a name it is.

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 01:56 (twenty years ago)

Oh, by far Test Icicles. I was very pleased when they broke up, not because I listened to them or disliked their music, just because after the hype of breaking up dies I'l never have to hear that unbelievably stupid name, it would be the exact same case if the arctic monkeys broke up.

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Though not exactly new, Fist Fuck USA was both hard to recommend seriously, and hard to recommend because our paper wouldn't print their name (even in ads! For some reason, the ad men felt that Fist Fuck USA was where they had to take a stand).

Christpuncher is almost too easy to recommend as a campy metal band, but cross-town rivals The Christpunchers are both serious and pretty lame.

js (honestengine), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 02:45 (twenty years ago)

Scratch that actually. Pantytec takes the cake of worst name I've ever heard. In fact I saw Pony Slaystation at a used cd store waaaaaay before I would ever find out who they were, and just took a minute to think how lame their name, and the name of their album was, I remember being outright disguited at how bad people could be at choosing names. This was like over 3 years ago or something too, the fact I even remember this probably says something too. Either way when I did get into them I actually did avoid saying their name several times, just going oh yeah that song by those guys, and whatnot. That happened like a week ago too. And I've avoided writing their name down on things that could potentially be read by others.

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Shit, someone beat me to pantytec.
