My haiku rundown on Stylus that everyone took the piss out of gets a specific mention though! Cheers SR.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Magazine that ILM has been consistently horrible about does not consider it "Top 25 Website", erm, shocker.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:32 (twenty years ago)

oh noes ILM is not able to appear in exalted company such as vh1.com

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:38 (twenty years ago)

It's a bit like doing a list of the Top 100 Books Of All Time and putting the Argos catalogue at number one, really.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:39 (twenty years ago)

Slash fiction (the slash stands for the / in between the groping popstars, as in Pete/Carl)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:40 (twenty years ago)

x-post why did the observer give 2 good reviews re: new prince album ?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:41 (twenty years ago)

ya'bastard MC - you made me laff out loud in the new open office layout. now everyone knows i surf the net (like it was a secret)

mark e (mark e), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:41 (twenty years ago)

DJ Martian is experienced enough to know that broadsheet newspapers are contractually obliged to refer to every new Prince album as a Stunning Return To Form (see also Bowie, Stones, Morrissey, We Won't Get An Interview - except I'm not sure that Douglas Coupland actually did, with Morrissey that is...).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:43 (twenty years ago)

My guess is that Coupland and Morrissey just had one long hard gay awkward shag, and then he was too embarassed to write about it so we got that instead.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:44 (twenty years ago)

gay shag?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:48 (twenty years ago)

No thank you I've just eaten

1980s sitcom writer (Dom Passantino), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:54 (twenty years ago)

the 80s were an incredibly time for alternative comedy.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:01 (twenty years ago)

In OMM their "top five blogs" were also listed. Number one was the blog of Pete "I Was Only Doing Research/The Money Was Resting In My Account" Townshend.

Number five was OMM's own blog so I'm not sure we need to take this seriously.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:02 (twenty years ago)

the other was SR who writes for OMM

and

No Rock & Roll - is music gossip

and

I can't remember the other

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Obviously, Esteban Buttez is still too controversial for The Observer.

PATHETIC JOB, GUYS!

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:13 (twenty years ago)

I think it would have been interesting to see the new influx of people if ILM had been listed. Wonder how it would have affected the board?

NickB (NickB), Monday, 20 March 2006 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I was a bit disappointed by the absence of an "ILM - see also: dissensus" entry...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:03 (twenty years ago)

they forgot to mention DiSfish.com for open content music. quality free music!

Marco Raaphorst, Monday, 20 March 2006 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Heck, you guys.

First you moan about the anonymous troll people, then you want more of them.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Is ILM a secret?

file under cozy techno (fandango), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:30 (twenty years ago)

national newsapaper lists a website = never a big surge in hits. in my experience

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

true when my blog got a mention in The Guardian Guide internet section, a few referrals after...no big surge

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:52 (twenty years ago)

and when the guardian did something on ILX (or was it FreakyTrigger??) we were all "let's piss of the guardian readers" and nowt much happened

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 20 March 2006 13:55 (twenty years ago)

yeah, have to admit - having skimmed the article - i didn't actually click-n-go on any of them, as none (apart from the usual suspects) were enticing ..

mark e (mark e), Monday, 20 March 2006 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I didn't notice any particular increase in traffic for CoM after it was mentioned in the Guardian or in the Wire (three years ago nearly! gah!).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 March 2006 14:11 (twenty years ago)

who the hell publishes lists of random links in 2006? that was helpful before we had decent search. reminds me of the websites we all had in elementary school, only with better ads.

lf (lfam), Monday, 20 March 2006 14:51 (twenty years ago)

tell me about this decent search -- you google for 'music website' and...

No Pitchfork, no credibility

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

i like last.fm although i only really use it to paw over stats rather than listen to the radio thing. is the pandora thing (or others) supposed to be better?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Delete the first "No" there and you'd be OTM.

(xpost)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:21 (twenty years ago)

My guess Reynolds got upset when that one Pitchfork writer stole a bunch of ideas from his book, turned them into a badly written article full of inaccuracies, and then didn't acknowledge his plagiarism until he was forced to by an online music forum.

That's just a guess though.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:24 (twenty years ago)

much apologies for duplicate posting,

and A C+Ped the list too, foo'

the list seems crummy/lazy/half assed

did they have a hole to fill and write it by text message?

if they had done a site by site review of download services that would have been sort of handy, esp. if it aggregated (blog style) users own experiences but do people need to be told to go to iTunes?

Print media tightens its noose

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 20 March 2006 19:35 (twenty years ago)

I wonder how many lurkers ILM has. Because it seems that every time I google a band, there's an ILM link in the top answers
