TS: Eazy's "Real Compton City Gs" Vs Luke's "Cowards in Compton"

here we have two responses to "dre day," Dr. Dre's infamous dis record, from the diss-ees themselves.

To me, Luke's is infinitely bettah, as its funnier–but then, I luv Luke. Eazy also jacks "dre day" for his track: it would seem to me that you shouldn't present an homage to the man who you are disrespecting. Luke does so on his cut for about 15 secs before dismissing Dre's stylings…both make much hay with Dre's glam duds as a member of the World Class Wrecking Cru"…

for reference…

"Real muthaphuckkin g'z" because Eazy was still gettin' paid off Dre even after the "dre day" video sonned him.

"No vaseline" by 'Cube is better than both of 'em.

Shouts to "fuck compton" and "bitch with a perm" by Tim Dog too.

MR PERFECT, Monday, 20 March 2006 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Luke loves calling people "ho ass"…

I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of Luke. That video was fantastic though.

I enjoy how "Real Compton City Gs" approximates Dre's g-funk sound and the scary whispering is a nice touch. I thought about starting a TS: Dre's "Dre Day" vs. Eazy's "Real Compton City Gs" thread, but never did. Luke does have the better vide though and I'd forgotten about that.

Luke is Luther Campbell, leader of the 2 live crew. 16 years ago, he was the most infamous musician in the world, in that the Crew's Nasty As they Wanna Be was the first record to be illegal in the USA.

Heh, ta 'Veronica', my friend just told me on messenger, I felt a bit silly. I know about 2 live crew but had never heard of Luke.

Eazy also jacks "dre day" for his track: it would seem to me that you shouldn't present an homage to the man who you are disrespecting.

But that's the point! You're jacking his beat. Eazy's is just more evil, meaner, leaner. And the Dre-in-his-early-days pics are totally vicious, as is calling Snoop "an anorexic rapper."

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 20 March 2006 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I suppose you've got a point, TT. its just that I like that Luke mocks g-funk, then resumes his bass music, claiming that his is the real shit. admirable, in light of the fact that g-funk took over the world…

Luke's video is vicious-er, in that he has the guy acting like fake gangsta Dre and sissy Dre. whereas Eazy terrorizes the guy imitating the guy who imitated him in "Dre Day," which misses the point.

I remember that the Luke single had a great "disclaimer" at the end about how the track was not directed at homosexuals in general but ast two specific homosexuals: Dr. Dre and Snoop.
