Guitar skills, hair, production, etc etc. who is most triumphant?

Nile to the nth degree.

I don't think it's that simple. Nile's great, of course, but Leo had the same riff sampled by Public Enemy, Ultramagnetic MCs, and EPMD (Um, I think. Maybe it was Eric B and Rakim. Anyway.) You can't just dismiss that.

I am a bigot. (Also I was just reading about Chic today and thinking about all their music, therefore they rule by default and your talk of other samples is just there. Yay evil me!)

Leo

Maybe if one of them was white and british we could get the same level of vitriol as the Page/Hendrix thread. But I thought the disco/Bowie connection would suffice! Oh, well, I guess we'll see.

How about Leo and Nile vs. Page and Hendrix? (The former for me.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 March 2006 03:23 (twenty years ago)

Wow, that's actually a pretty tough call. Mostly because of how much I love Hendrix.

Who can we get to face off against Curtis Mayfield?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 23 March 2006 03:28 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe it should've been Rodgers/Edwards vs. Jam/Lewis?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 23 March 2006 03:29 (twenty years ago)

And may I just say here: man-oh-man is the search function useless for 'chic.'

Yowsah yowsah yowsah. (As I'm listening to them now, thus being inspired.)

Ooh, I get to break out my trusty Nick Rhodes quote here! "Nile's got 'da funk'", so Nile all the funky way.

Besides, I will always be grateful to Mr. Rodgers for nominating Duran for "Most Underrated Artist" on VH1's "The List" back in the late '90s. They ended up being voted #1 most underrated artist on that particular episode, and it was in that ep that Nile said that he had seen 17 Duran concerts before and not one of them was a bad one. I became incredibly grateful to him for that, because it let me know that at least one dude respected for his musical knowhow was giving my favorite musical artist some respect. He even managed to drown out the hackneyed protests of fellow panelist Bobcat Goldthwaite.

I am beginning to suspect that you may not be familiar with the ouevre of Leo Nocentelli. This must not be allowed to continue. On hand I only have a homemade twofer joining "Good Old Funky Music" and "Jam" so options are a bit limited, but the point should get across.
