Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 26 March 2006 01:46 (twenty years ago)

the fucking minutemen, tim, are you crazy????
the mummies are merely good, the minutemen were demigods.

the Minutemen were great but their champions are like horrifying Frankenstein indie-snob/jazzbo snob creations: 'now this is GOOD MUSIC'

therefore, the fuckin' Mummies

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Sunday, 26 March 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

i've drunk a lot more beer listening to the mummies than the minutemen

Very true, but still, fuck 'em.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 16:53 (thirteen years ago)

Especially when they talk about their 'fonkiness,' which I assume it meant to rhyme with 'honkiness.'

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 16:53 (thirteen years ago)

man I don't know how deep some of you guys go with the Mummies but the actual Mummies are an all-time fuckin' band who definitely can go toe-to-toe with the Minutemen. They're simple stomping garage rock but Christ were they great.

yeah they were absolutely great, but not the minutemen IMO

I saw the Mummies once. They had a fake Mummies band come out and pick up their instruments and play a song and then the real Mummies came out and threw them off stage.

timellison, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 01:12 (thirteen years ago)

for some reason I just watched 10 seconds of a here come the mummies video. I thought they were simply ripping off the mummies but now I realize they are actually wrapped in toilet paper because they are anthropomorphic lumps of human shit. if ever there was a time to stab a motherfucker in the back...

otm! both bands are "gimmicky" in a way but with minutemen the gimmicks are more in the music (funny lyrics, brief funky moments) whereas the mummies just dressed up like mummies

flopson, Thursday, 7 March 2013 18:36 (thirteen years ago)

i take issue that the minutemen were "gimmicky" musically

u r the best magician ever. my bad levitate me pls (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 March 2013 19:26 (thirteen years ago)

this will probably give you equal measures of anger and schadenfreude. the guys in aerosmith are kind of obsessed with the misfits and we spent an afternoon in Redding once debating whether to spend our night off seeing graves at some local watering hole - this video tipped the scales to "no"

oh man shades of the spinal tap/paul schaeffer record signing

the fake misfits were opening for gwar, a friend that i worked with used to be a slavepit worker so when they came through mpls he got us in for free and at the end of gwar we got to see our friend get eaten by a giant vagina

So to break up the giant vagina talk but the Mummies are great. The Minutemen are the greatest.
