my flight is booked! anyone else?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:16 (twenty years ago)

whats the lineup?

Yawn (Wintermute), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:22 (twenty years ago)

xpost. My flight and accomodation is booked, but not bought my tickets yet. Really looking forward to it again.
Lineup isn't confirmed yet.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

no idea yet. i have a work event in europe around that time so i just blindly rolled it in. even if the official lineup is bad, i'm sure the peripheral stuff will more than justify it. (philip might have some leads tho.)

i'd also potentially be interested in rooming with people, as well, so i guess we can talk about that here too.

xpost

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm planning to go, have booked plane tickets etc but we (5 of us) don't have a clue where to stay? any recommendations?

Tom Parnell (tpp), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Just stick "Barcelona" and "apartments" into google and you'll find a million hits for cheap apartments. Obviously read the "about us" or "contact us" page on any site to make sure it isn't sus'.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

barcelona.craigslist.org

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 15:48 (twenty years ago)

yep im going but doubt i will go to sonar. i mean, i wont buy tickets, just go to other parties and get a night ticket if its amazing. i doubt i will go to any day stuff really.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 27 March 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

i will be there.

rchinn (rchinn), Monday, 27 March 2006 19:47 (twenty years ago)

what's the going rate (approx.) for flying to spain from the states? i'd probably fly out of texas

manuel (manuel), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 03:47 (twenty years ago)

tickets

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

thinking about it...

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 31 March 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

first 2 confirmed bookings...

laurent garnier + bugge wesseltoft and sasha

http://www.sufmart.com/index.php/archivos/noticias/sasha-y-laurent-garnier-live-con-bugge-wesseltoft-en-sonar-2006/

manuel (manuel), Saturday, 1 April 2006 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Hmm, couldn't care less about Sasha and Garnier will be on during the day, I assume, doing the jazzy-electronic stuff. His "the cloud making machine" album is a bit so-so. Would have preferred it if he was djing really. Thanks for the info anyway.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 1 April 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Nothing to make me buy tickets just yet anyway.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 1 April 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

other confirmations...

bodycode (and i think portable during the day)
matthew dear
ryan elliot
ryoji ikeda
tiga

grave (grave), Sunday, 2 April 2006 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Bwah, line-up announced. Not too impressive from where I'm standing. I'll catch Hawtin and Villalobos and Senor Coconut definitely and try and see Isolée, Modeselektor and Diplo vs. A-trak as well.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:33 (twenty years ago)

lineup looks crap to be honest.

would rather go to Berlin.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:39 (twenty years ago)

haha that is kinda crap, innit... all the stuff that goes on in barcelona in and around it though is the draw I think

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:42 (twenty years ago)

actually, feel like I'm being a bit short-sighted; I don't recognise even half the names on tht list

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:42 (twenty years ago)

I like Barcelona a lot so I'm not really bothered, I like spending a week there, having a wee sunbathe at the Barceloneta, drinking estrella damm and eating cured ham. I think the peripheral stuff will make it a bit better too (fingers crossed).

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:43 (twenty years ago)

drinking estrella damm and eating cured ham

Unintentional rhyme. Date-entry has rotted my mind.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:44 (twenty years ago)

im going
but no sonar

i love barcelona

and im going to berlin too

ill have my cake and eat it

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:45 (twenty years ago)

voll-damm not only rhymes better, it tastes better too. :)
(though i don't really recommend voll-damm for daylong drinking.... that 7.4% or whatever catches up to you fast.)

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:45 (twenty years ago)

yeah i'm not going to sonar. no way i can afford it.

the lineup looks sort of eh to me--i'm more excited about mutek to be honest.

and are liars the one rock band it's ok to like if you're into house/techno?

geeta (geeta), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:50 (twenty years ago)

where are the label showcases for new and interesting labels in the house/techno area?

since I am the only person I know who didn't like Barcelona when I stayed there I will plan a different holiday I guess!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Voll-damm not only rhymes better, it tastes better too. :)

This is the kind of insider knowledge I'm looking for! Like, is that Neng guy still on TV?

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I am going just for the beach parties.. have an apartment to share with someone who isn't a total drug crazed twat.

sumedha wijayasiri (pillzandthrillz), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:09 (twenty years ago)

el neng! not just TV... he's on my lighter.
Qué pasa neng!!!!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

insider scoop - who knows about a kompakt beach party? pls start gossiping about what parties are going on where!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

there'll be tons of beach parties and off-sonar parties, no fear. factor city's doing their thing again on the beach, i'm sure.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:44 (twenty years ago)

yeah people, remember -- sonar's equally about the off-site parties.

banana squad (dayvidday), Monday, 3 April 2006 21:51 (twenty years ago)

Herbert, Isolee, Villalobos, Mills, and the MFA sounds okay to me. You spoiled Europeans:)

jergins (jergins), Monday, 3 April 2006 23:04 (twenty years ago)

no kompakt! no border community! no knife!

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 3 April 2006 23:16 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to be there but the main program is a bit disappointing.

I also have problems dancing on beaches for some reason. No bounce!

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 05:05 (twenty years ago)

hey what's the fest/event in berlin you guys are referring to?

has mutek been announced?

Daniel Gelfer (gelfball), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 07:31 (twenty years ago)

i think the event in berlin referred to is:

weekend
maria
watergate
panoramabar
club de visionaire
etc
etc
every
fucking
week
week in
week out
omg

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 07:34 (twenty years ago)

haha ok, gotchya

Daniel Gelfer (gelfball), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 08:10 (twenty years ago)

does Sonar have Japanese funding? I know they do a spinoff festival in Tokyo some years. There seem to be many crapola Japanese acts on the bill for some reason.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 08:14 (twenty years ago)

i can't afford to go this year, so i'm quite relieved at that line-up! it's ok, if i was going i'd enjoy myself, but i'm not going to kick myself over missing it. and i'll be able to afford a holiday come summer, so maybe...berlin?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:34 (twenty years ago)

berlin in july, i was thinking?

permanent revolution (cis), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:54 (twenty years ago)

that, cis, sounds like Un Plan.

(i don't want to go to benicassim either y'see: i don't do tents and really won't be able to afford a hotel.)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:14 (twenty years ago)

Everyone chill out! The lineup so far is only a PREVIEW lineup. So far it's only got about half as many acts as last year, so there are PLENTY more to come. By the looks of it the majority of those annouced so far will be on in the day I reckon.

There are always many a japanese 'crapola' act, I dunno why though.

Also Sonar day is quality, I dunno why so many people skip it. Chilling in the sun with smuggled alcohol and food(and i by smuggled, i mean just walking in with it in your bag.), quality. Also there's many a gem to uncover. Hot chip have exploded since last march, though where's 'General Electrics' gone? Cliquety Klick is a brilliant album and he's a nutter live...

MattmattmattMcmattason, Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:47 (twenty years ago)

berlin in july, i was thinking?

come for the last weekend in June - that's when I'll be there!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:50 (twenty years ago)

alas you can't ask Alex to leave the country during wimbledon! (also while i think my exams should be over by the 24th i'm not sure)

permanent revolution (cis), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:10 (twenty years ago)

steve i would love to, but WIMBLEDON. i cannot be out of this country for wimbledon.

xp!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:11 (twenty years ago)

oh god. oh god. cis, i've just thought - this world cup football thing, isn't that in germany this year? will it be over by july?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Final is 9th July! we will be safe.

permanent revolution (cis), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:14 (twenty years ago)

and flights, hostel &c will be cheaper hopefully!

THEY HAD BETTER NOT FUCK AROUND WITH THE WIMBLEDON TV SCHEDULE FOR THE SAKE OF THIS FOOTBALL NONSENSE.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Oh, don't worry, they will.

o lor i just remembered, the love parade! that's mid-july, innit?

permanent revolution (cis), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 13:19 (twenty years ago)

it's weird, myspace has absolutely blown up in germany over the last, i dunno, six months? i get more "friend requests" from german producers than american folx at this point, i think. meinspace!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Monday, 8 May 2006 21:28 (twenty years ago)

god maybe I should go...doubt I'll be healthy enough tho : (

slim chance...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 May 2006 21:33 (twenty years ago)

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 06:02 (twenty years ago)

So what else unmissable? This list is massive, exciting and intimidating:

augustus (augustus), Saturday, 3 June 2006 02:11 (twenty years ago)

kompakt beach party then nightcaps at Raum for Wagon Repair on Sunday? if im not dead by then

Good Dog (Good Dog), Saturday, 3 June 2006 02:18 (twenty years ago)

god, but there's just so much on! and I have to miss 80 percent of it. coming from Japan where there's only a couple of good nights on a week it's a bit strange to have everything in one place at once. I don't like crowds so I'll miss most of the main festival but definitely i will go to the raum nights on the 15th and 18th. also La Terrrazza is supposed to be a nice venue, up in the hills outdoors. hope I can make it there for something. what strikes your fancy, augustus?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Saturday, 3 June 2006 07:11 (twenty years ago)

similar directory is available at Resident Advisor but your not so likely to find the fringe stuff.

http://www.residentadvisor.net/events.asp?ai=20

apparently there's an Output party on Saturday but can't find that listed...interested in how easy its going to be to check out more than one event in an evening

gus_mac (phonetically), Saturday, 3 June 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

holey moses, this is going to be fun.

scrimhaw1837 (son_of_scrimshaw), Sunday, 4 June 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

arrived in barcalona! lovely town !

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 12 June 2006 21:29 (twenty years ago)

except I have no idea where the good record shop is to buy vinyl. can someone help? Phillip Sherburne? Ambrose?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

cd.drome is nice

it's on valldoncella street

manuel (manuel), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

CD Drome is great - if you haunt that neighborhood (moving back down toward the water) there are a ton of other great shops, don't know the name of most. also try tazmaniac and wah wah...

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 17:42 (twenty years ago)

thank you both!

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

galaktika in gracia, carrer torrent d'olla, its tiny but pretty decent.]

after flat nightmares, think ive got somewhere a million miles out way past placa espanya....hopefully it'll be near montjuic and in the hills at least.

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 10:42 (twenty years ago)

is cozen there?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 10:49 (twenty years ago)

i'll be in barcelona, what ups

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 10:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm moving to barcelona

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Placa Espanya miles out? Walking distance, more like.

There are some vinyl emporiums on a little street whose name I forget that runs parallel to the top end of Rambla del Raval or whatever it's called. Erratic opening hours due to smoking commitments, I think.

Are you pulling our leg, RJG?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 10:55 (twenty years ago)

I hope I won't be, one day!

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:04 (twenty years ago)

ambrose, please tell me about your flat nightmares. we are looking for a place this week and I wonder if there are some obvious pitfalls to avoid. what happened?

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Good Dog (Good Dog), Monday, 19 June 2006 21:47 (twenty years ago)

lucky fuckers

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 01:48 (twenty years ago)

The knife were great. I did too many drugs. That's my exhaustive festival coverage.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 20:58 (twenty years ago)

best:

michael mayer @ c/o pop chiringuito, playa nova mar bella
heidi from phonica @ playa mar bella (at the same time)
italo dude who played after her
roman flugel (or maybe someone else) @ la paloma
someone from mobilee @ raum

missed:

magda @ city hall
luciano @ maremagnum
audion @ sonar
isolee @ sonar
mat jonson @ raum
superpitcher, m mayer, etc @ nitsa ("cerrado completo" @ 3.30 am)
no good:

matias aguayo (i think)

best day: sunday

best venue: the beach. couldnt be bothered goign to anywhere with a roof and walls after dancing on the beach.

photos being uploaded now

managed to fail to meet cozen for the second year running. one day it will happen!

overall, it was good, but sonar is unnecessary, and spending all day sleeping and buying ham, catchign the bus, etc is more than sufficient activity in 30'c

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:51 (twenty years ago)

mobilee thing looked amazing : (

damn sinuses, maybe next year.

who was the someone? ralf kollmann from mobilee is a really good dj.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:58 (twenty years ago)

sorry i missed all of yous

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

mobilee party was great, exercise one totally rocked it.

kompakt party @ nitsa was good, gui boratto especially. freude am tanzen room really good; krause duo killed me, and soren w/o robag was still banging, if less loco.

bpitch @ nitsa was even better than kompakt party; ellen/apparat in fine (live) form, and when paul kalkbrenner played his closing live set, i thought i might throw myself off the balcony from sheer pleasure. now that's what i call trance!

c/o pop beach party featuring mayer, koze, thomas was fucking insane. actually no, it was totally sane - super mellow and beautiful. nothing like swimming in the ocean with a pair of speakers blasting mayer at you. downside: wolfgang never played, despite rumors (confirmed by him) that he would. did ricardo actually put on the last record? someone told me he did but i couldn't see him up there.

bummed i missed luciano, and bummed i missed sonar by night saturday, but there was no doing both. wish i could have caught the minus beach party (all of 100 meters down from kompakt) but i was too damned happy to be stationary for a while, on my beach blanket with my 2-euro cans of estrella (inflation! they used to be 1.50, and before that 1) and copious porro.

in fact, i think i'll go back to the beach tomorrow. no mayer, but i'll still have water/beer/porro. i hit the trifecta!

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 00:20 (twenty years ago)

2 euros?! did you buy them from a street vendor at the ramblas or what?

manuel (manuel), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 03:25 (twenty years ago)

"where's cutty?"

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 07:04 (twenty years ago)

best

the knife
scissor sisters
vitalic
mayer, matias aguayo, superpitcher, whoever was after s.pitcher (who was AMAZING)
the freude am tanzen room downstairs @ nitsa, dancing come so easy

disappointing

the knife (slightly)
tunng
james holden (wtf)

I can't remember who else I saw, despite being almost completely sober the whole weekend

managed to have my bad stolen and miss the bus for my plane too : )))))

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 07:09 (twenty years ago)

"freude am tanzen" = joy from/in dancing??

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 07:48 (twenty years ago)

high:

mobilee party - really dug the chardronnet set and the infectious enthusiasm of the hosts.

ryan elliot at Sonar by night - played about 8 crystal clear + beautiful tunes i now really need on an amazing sound system

lying round on the sand at the Kompakt party to Koze and Mayer.
lying round on the sand at the Get Physical party to an unknown DJ

hearing matt jonson play typerope

telling a certain producer how good I think he is and seeing his face really light up with delight!

lows: missing luciano + loco dice, missing everything at Nitsa, catching a fucking bus back from Marbella while Audio Werner and Mike Shannon were playing and missing that, Matthew Jonson's new breakbeat direction, Richie + Ricardo at Sonar by night, wandering into the Miss Kitten room by mistake

overall A++WOULDSONARAGAIN

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 12:18 (twenty years ago)

**BEST
Booka Shade @ Get Physical @ Loft - new album tours very well. they've now got about 5 complete dancefloor destroyers, and if they had proper production of lights, visuals and programming they would be best live electronic act in the world, akin to Underworld at their peek. Night Falls, Darko, Pong Pang, White Rooms all worked really well, as well as the reworks of Oh Superman, Mandarine Girl and Body Language vs Cha saved for encore.

Trevor Jackson & Ozkar Melzer @ Output @ Hotel Diagonal - lush rooftop hotel pool party with fun summer tunes. good crowd and nice to mix up the beach parties with something semi-civilised

Patrick Chardronnet @ Mobilee @ Raum - some great tunes, especially Eve by Day. was also pleasantly drunk at that point and enjoyed the party atmosphere.

*GOOD
Matias Aguayo @ Kompakt @ Nitsa - works better in smaller venues but still fun, rapping it out with Max Turner was cool

Heidi @ Get Physical beach party - proper its sunday, everyones a bit sleep deprived and loose beach tunes, her new track with Riton is dope

Gaiser & Magda @ Minus @ City Hall - some big tunes, just a bit too tired at 5am on Monday morning to go next level

Kiki and Funke @ BPitch beach party - good value

OK
The Knife @ Sonar by Day - not as strong as their London show, probably because of the crowd not getting it to their weirdness as much

Koze @ Kompakt @ Nitsa - Still loving Loco Dice - Seeing Through Shadows and that Thomas Schumaker tune

Kompakt & Minus beach partys - Some good vibes, but stayed longer at the Get Physical bash. Liked Koze dropping the french pop 7inch though.

Ambrose - we often seem to be in the same place, this and the London thread, do I know you?

rchinn (rchinn), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 12:29 (twenty years ago)

yeah, Koze's choice of 60's-70's gems was inspired. i need to know what the last tune he played was something about "beach with a suntan"...?

most heard tunes at Sonar - Inner City "Good Life" (3 times) and Ame's "Future Bound" (3)

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 12:44 (twenty years ago)

all beach parties - too too quiet!!!!!!!

thawas my main beef with the kompakt one. i dug the isolee (?) mix of "what you say...." but couldnt really hear it, and thought that what i assumed to be aguayos set (ie the one with "slow" in it) was kinda at the wrongg time...like people were wanting to get a bit fresher. really crowded small/cramped space doesnt go with a monged out sexy slow set. maybe it was just too busy and too difficult to get beers.

the mobilee party was weird... went straight into the top room and stayed there for an hour thinking "this is a bit shit, why are there only 20 people ghere?" until i chanced on the insane underground sweat box donstairs...like moog but bigger.

gutted about missing a get physical beach party!!!! but its pointless to be gutted really.

you cant really see it too well but here richie having an orgasm @ 7am.
