Your mother's favourite homosexual vs your sister's.

Because I always assumed Wainwright would have been the first person to do a "Do. You. See?" cover of "Don't Cha".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 07:29 (twenty years ago)

I prefer Will as a singer, Rufus as a songwriter.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 07:31 (twenty years ago)

Without changing the gender of the lyric, hopefully.
(xpost)

I gave both of their albums good reviews in Time Out so I shouldn't really take sides. They should do a duet, preferably on "Don't Cha."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 07:33 (twenty years ago)

You've not heard Will Young's "Don't Cha" Marcello? He did it on Shoeless Joe Whiley's "Live Lounge" a month or so back, and, yes, he did refrain from changing the lyrics. Post the video for "Switch It On", coyness wouldn't really work for him.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 07:34 (twenty years ago)

Ah, you see I don't listen to any of Scab Jo Whiley's shows. I'm more of a Ken Bruce/Bonnie Wee Popmaster Quiz-type person these days.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 07:49 (twenty years ago)

i had the idea of rufus doing 'don't cha', like, ages ago! are you serious about will actually having done it? why were you listening to jo whiley, dom?

i'm not sure how much a duet would work, will has a much wimpier voice than rufus and would get a bit overpowered, i think.

i like them both, no choice!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:10 (twenty years ago)

I didn't listen to Jo Whiley! I was made aware of Will having covered "Don't Cha" through another message board, and used the "listen again" ish on the Radio 1 website to enjoy its many wonders.

(true fact: there's a club night in Bristol that boasts of its music policy "anything that Jo Whiley might play")

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:12 (twenty years ago)

If I was to say, why ess eye, would that be code enough?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:13 (twenty years ago)

You _may_ be able to torrent it from xhttp://www.mininova.org/tor/198077. If not, I will ISY it at some point in the next few days when I get home.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:14 (twenty years ago)

Is it really time for a When The Boat Comes In revival? Now I'd like to hear Will and Rufus doing that: "thou shalt have a fishy on a little dishy" etc.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:14 (twenty years ago)

IntFact:

When the BCI was filmed using Reading Town Hall frontage as the "workhouse"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:18 (twenty years ago)

Why does this not surprise me?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:21 (twenty years ago)

How do I shot grammar.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:24 (twenty years ago)

This is a hard choice. Will's got some great funky pop tunes in him (you know how much I adore Switch It On) and the last track on his last albu, the Nitin Sawhney thing, shows he can do stretch out remarkably too. But Rufus has such a fucking amazing way with a melody, the way he twists and tumbles lines I find really astonishing. I like the idea of Will getting more like Rufus, actually, but still maintaining some of his pop energy too.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:26 (twenty years ago)

That will probably happen.

Is that c+p'd from your "amazing pop facts" thread or are you quite serious?

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:35 (twenty years ago)

Horrendously, its actually true. I will walk past the poster again at some point in the next few hours and actually remember its name and address, if anyone wishes to consider some sort of Mardi Gras Experience action.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 08:43 (twenty years ago)

There ain't no party like a Jo Whiley party

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 09:04 (twenty years ago)

Conservative, I am reliably told.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 09:07 (twenty years ago)

I can remember her showing Select magazine around her house and refuting the idea that she called her daughter India "because she liked indie music"
