i'm hopefully not the only person who assumed this was a mathew jonson alias when i first came across his records, but if anything it feels more like he should be villalobos in disguise - and indeed i read here that one of my favourite tracks of his, "hawaii you", is a villalobos coproduction:

does anyone know if this is true?

so, what else to people know/think? i know there was quite a lot of love for his first perlon 12" here, and if anything i think the new one is even better. on the other hand the Was Kommt Nach Montag / Kommt Was Nach Montag 12" seemed a bit safe, a bit familiar - although perhaps that's just because i've heard the tracks in live sets.

i found was kommt nach montag a bit boring. i sort of like 'being & riding' but mainly because it provides good samples.

that last post was supposed to be me.

his alter ego remix is pretty sweet! i was playing it pretty loud the other day in my apartment and i think the downstairs neighbors thought i was hammering something into the wall!

Funnily enough that's exactly what I thought some of the percussion on that track sounded like when I first heard it, about two and a half minutes in 'tap. tap. tap'. I'm not madly keen on Matt John though and I prefer the Robag Wruhme remix and, rather predictably, the Villalobos remix.

'Princess Unknown' is lovely.

saw him live a few weeks ago -- excellent, exceeded my fairly expectations. I do like the Perlon 12", but wasn't particularly expecting it to come across so well in an hour long solo set.

where are you getting all of these new 12"s from btw toby? ie where can I find Perlon 54 :D

fairly limited expectations

yeah, somehow his stuff seems a little crowded for minimal techno.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Thursday, 30 March 2006 03:18 (twenty years ago)

that's why he fits in with the perlon posse--they are as messy as 'minimal' gets! they're all about crowding more sounds into those meenimal grooves. that said, what i've heard of him so far isn't as mind-melting as i was hoping it would be, but i haven't heard much.

He was outstanding at Fabric and very good on the following Sunday afternoon. Will have to track down Perlon 54.
