Do/have artists released albums at a certain time of the year to complement the work?

Other than, say, Christmas albums, do artists time the release of their albums to the time of the year?

We all have albums that evoke times of the year - and on many of them, this was the intent of the artist.

So if someone puts out an autumnal album, have they or can they set the release for September? Or is that all up to the label?

Like, when was Harvest released?

And so on.

I'd imagine the label makes the decision, not the artist.

Haven't there been lots of albums released on Election Day?

Apart from christmas, no it's only singles that get this.

The Rapture put out "Love is all" just in time for Valentines day.

Conversely, "Rock and Roll Winter" Wizzard came out in Spring.

Distributors determinate release date to a large degree. I understnad it takes longer to release a record these days than it used, if Mark E. Smith gripes are to be believed.

Automatic for the People is pretty much what I think of as a fall record, and it came out at a perfect time. (AllMusic says July 1992, but I remember going to a midnight release my freshman year in college, so it had to be August.)

Things like "September's coming soon..." Worked great for an August release. That had to be on purpose, right?

Yeah but that's for sales reasons. I'm talking aesthetics here. 'Cause I'm fruity and all.

RZA said that he intentionally wanted Only Built For Cuban Linx to come out during the summer and Liquid Swords to come out during the winter, as per feel of the albums. (I personally don't buy OB4CL as a summer album, it feels like autumn to me.)

Chinese Democracy is due out roundabout when China becomes democratic.

Whenever that happens, I am pretty sure the album is postponed once more.

Nice Nice (on Collective Jyrk) put out a serious of short CDs about each season (limited to 300 each). Also came with seasonal hallucinogenic poster noise.

("Spring" is not that good. Too much shimmery. But winter is sweet.)
